Alan and Thomas Ltd said they stopped the card signings, as jokes or comments about someone's age could be offensive under new age discrimination laws.

Sue the company for discrimination against non-employees. Their wealth distribution apparatus is prejudiced against those who don't work for the company!

Yeah, I was talking to someone at work about GSK's guidelines on this matter, and they mentioned that on someone's birthday card you should avoid joking about their age. I see the PC bandwagon is rolling into town again...

Cake!?

They had better make sure they also get a sugarless cake for the diabetics, and a fat-free one for the heifers (oops, gravitationally-challenged).

Given the subject, I want to file a complaint against Lonestar's entries in birthday threads.

As much as I find the whole workplace birthday acknowledgement routine tedious, I'd rather have it than a ban on it.

I don't know what's worse, the pun, or the fact it took me a good ten seconds or so to get it.
