Oh, and now that I've read the article: I think the idea is very nice. I thought of it few years ago, but kept hush-hush, imagining I'd get into a decision-making role in a large oil company before anyone else would think of it. Unfortunately for me, it seems that this whole generation is forward-thinking (instead of the baby boomer generation which was in it's inventor age of 20-40 during the late 1970s oil crisis. It used only to cry that we'll run out of oil forever any day now and therefore cutting back on consumption and using insanely expensive solar panels would be The Only Possible Answer).

Simply by keeping the natural gas and piping it (either as a liquid or a gas) to market instead of flairing it off would be a big boon to the environment. Also in places where there are natural oil seeps or tar pits (like in southern California) pumping oil out of the ground actually results in less oil/tar being released into the ocean and/or environment. By pumping oil out of the ground it lowers the pressure thus resulting in less oil naturally seeping out of the rocks into the ocean.
