Many thanks to all for the name day wishes.

Much as I regret it, I should remind everyone that these messages are the kind of thing that can be sent via PM or as "visitor messages" on the profile page. I hope that no one takes this amiss, but I really should be consistent in my moderaton activities

It's ok, Father. You can take a day off and let one of the other mods spank our hands on this one. But wait, Fr. Raphael has already joined us. Must be a sign all is well.

Paul - you are a crack up! My sentiments exactly - wasnt someone saying on another thread that even the ascetics are allowed to laugh from time to time (pressure cooker analogy!!) - ROFL.

I wish we had a emoticon for this sort of occassion!

You'll note that I didn't "lock" the thread or delete it or anything - that I'll leave up to my colleagues should they find it necessary.

In confession, I believe firmly in the ascetic prescription that one should be strict with oneself and merciful towards others - though I rarely get that "strict with myself" part down very well.

Hahaha .. you have to admit Paul's comment was extremally amusing! I think he is a part-time comedian sometimes

I can see how this wouldn't work so well if we all started new threads to wish each other a Happy Nameday; but, in the case of the moderators who work so hard here, maybe we can allow some room for this.

So, thank you for your efforts here, and a belated Happy Nameday to you Father!

PS Possibly as there is an Introduction to New Members thread that covers all, there could be a Happy Nameday thread for existing members that could serve this purpose for those so inclined?

Indeed, I feel quite happy with the exception to our normal private-stuff-by-private-messages pattern, to give public well wishes to one of our devoted moderators. Many congratulations, and with all of our thanks for your work, Father.

Happy Nameday Father David. Chronia Polla - Many Happy Returns of the Day.

Could you tell us how you celebrate your nameday each year?

Since my nameday is always on a Sunday, that makes things a bit easier in a way. Since one should always strive to attend the Divine Services and receive the Mysteries on or near the nameday, having mine on a Sunday makes that easier. So, I start the day with the Divine Liturgy and then we always bring something particularly festive to share at the parish meal afterward. I am always therefore surrounded by friends whose company I enjoy. The only "embarrasing" part is that being the only clergyman in the parish I have to intone the "many years'' myself, but everyone else always sings with gusto. Even so, we try to have a party at the house close to my nameday (we combine Christmas and my nameday parties together - this year it will be on Thursday).

After the Sunday liturgy and meal, I try to get a chance to rest up and then my family - which now is just me and my wife - head out for another meal out somewhere (this year it was pretty simple - just a burger and fries and a beer. Some folks from the parish will send gifts or cards and my children called and/or posted on facebook with nameday wishes.

photos attached of St David of Wales
Thank you Andreas for the photos. I first found out about St David of Wales years ago when a visiting monk gave me a iconographic drawing of him. That then sparked an interest in knowing more about him. I have always been interested in and feel close to the "other" Davids (such as St David of Wales) as we (presumably) share the same patron - the Holy Prophet and King David.
