I was very happy with my life before I discovered DR1. Now I am much happier because if it was not for this site and Keith R, I would have not met the most wonderful person that I have ever met(and that's all I will say about that). I am more content now, also, because it gives me something extra to do with my time. I have learned to become a little, just a little, more tolerant with people's faults, or what I think is their fault. I have learned to not take things so seriously and that if people that you think is a jerk on a computer does not mean that the person is the same in his personal or social life. Now people can attack or critizese me all they want and after I give them a piece of my mind, all will be good again. I saw myself, at the beginning, getting mad for everything and feeling like shi* when people attacked me and now most of those people I truly consider "computer friends". Just because we do not have the same mentality or opinions does not mean that we can not get along. People have diffrerent views because not one person is identical to the other. If I think that you are wrong, I will fight the fight, visa versa, but at the end of that day, when I turn my computer off, I am the same person that turned it on. But babysitting becomes hard sometimes, hehe.
Ps: Because of DR1, now, I see myself going to SD almost every two months and I spend all my fricking money, THANKS DR1, Darnit, hehe. |

This Boards Impact on MY Life
This board has given me the opportunity to say a bunch of stupid crap about subjects that I know nothing at all about. It has allowed me to criticize people that I don’t even know. It has allowed me to self inflate my ego to the point that I must take injections to sleep at night. It has given me the freedom to act childish and yell and scream like a small child that should be spanked. It has made me lie (small white lies) just to feel important. However, now that I have repented and no longer feel that I will rot in Hell for the words that I have typed on this board, I feel a whole lot better about myself and others. (I saw the light yesterday when I received a PM from the Board Police.) So now may be I can kiss (women only please) and make up for all of my bad deeds. In my newly enlightened state, I can say that I have learned a lot from DR1. Its staff and fellow posters are a plethora of useful information and advice. I have actually saved money implementing some of your expertise. Not to mention some real good love advice. As I leave Indianapolis for La Romana on Friday, I know with confidence, that I can coexist in a culture that is so different than mine. Thank you all for your assistance and advice. The all new kinder and gentler, Chuckuindy |

Without this message board, I would never have met Escott and AZB, two of the best guys I have ever met. I would never have met a bunch of other great people along the way either. I would not have had access to all this great information. I look forward to logging on here, reading the news and following the message board banter. I would never have come across such idiots as Joseito and Janice. I would never have seen such funny pictures as the one in the media gallery of Xanaduranch with all his rings and stupid yellow hat. Thanks Robert and Dolores.

Aside from the extra income I get for being a DR1 Moderator , I would not have any "sex life" if it weren't for DR1! I don't think Rob wants anyone to know about all the mula he pays us. DR1 is a source of wealth and information..it creates friendships. Things sometimes get heated, but like a true family, their is a certain bond that you develop with people that will last for a long time. |

How did DR1 impact on my life? Well let’s see, and this is serious sh**! I have been living here for over 10 years now and I guess that with time you kind of forget or take for granted, all the good things about this country; “la joie de vivre” de este pueblo, the amazing drive to small towns, the priceless smile of a little boy on a country road, the flowery smell when you first come off the plane, its cascades and rivers, the beauty of the turquoise sea, that “real men” do still exist (thanks to Miguel’s posts) and of course sipping a cold Presidente in the Colonial zone. Than I started to read DR1 and the posts of people sharing their stories of when they touched the DR soil, some stories made me laugh, some made me “wonder what the heck!” but mostly they made me remember the reasons I felt in love with this country! Thank ya! ![]() Just don't say it too loud, since they are many female bashers here and they will rip me another caboose hol*, ![]() |

This is... all so... sweet ::crying::
Well, without DR1 I wouldn't have added to my list of friends some superb people. I can't imagine not knowing Chiri, Jane, Hillbilly, Dolores (and husband), Escott and of course Uncle Rob. I have met some other wonderful people on this site, but the ones above went from beer-or-coffee friends to I-am-in-jail-bail-me-out friends. My second favorite board (not counting my own of course) recently went paid-subscription and despite kicking and screaming I spat out the money and became a paying member. I thought I would never do that on the net, and this other MB has nowhere near the impact DR1 has on my life. Of course, if DR1 goes paid-subscription I WON'T PAY (don't get any ideas Rob) but hell will I miss it. ![]() |

Tomorrow I will be driving to the nearest bridge and throwing myself off of it. . . . . . .all because of DR1.
Ya see. . . .I thought I was an intelligent, interesting, fun loving kind of guy, with a not sao bad life. . . . .until TODAY. . . . . . because of DR1 I have learned. . . . .that. . . . .gasp. . . . . .I am a chopo! I am not really sure what a chopo is. . . . .I just know it is bad. Chopos make the world a bad place. The world would be MUCH better without us chopos. So. . . .tomorrow I do the world a favor and rid it of one insignificant Chopo! I wasn't sure I was a chopo, till today. Although I don't have an Ivy league degree, and don't drive my lexus to my penthouse in Piantini, I still didn't think I was a Chopo. I don't have nappy hair, fat nose or lips. . . . . .I don't hang my laundry on other people's balconies. . . . . .I like bachata and merengue but never blast it or play it all day long, in fact I rarely play it as I hear it EVERYWHERE. I don't urinate everywhere, and have no idea how to play dominos. . . .but yet I am a chopo. .. . . . . . . I am guilty. . . . .I drink BEER!!!! I mean I played a double header of softball yesterday. . . . .I know softball has got to be a chopo sport. . .. .I tried joining a Polo team but I don't own a horse. . . . . . . After the game. . . .I thought about a glass of port, or maybe a single malt scotch. . . . . .but Hooters. . . .the all time Chopo hangout. . . .which just happened to be the nearest bar to the game. . . . . .doesn't serve Single Malts. . . ..although they do have bottles of Dom. . . . . .we lost so Dom was not apropriate. . . . They do serve BEER. . . . .they even had Presidente. The ultimate Chopo drink! I ate wings. . . . .that has to be a chopo meal. . . . .and drank beer, while watching the Met game. . . . .it wasn't my fault. . . . .I didn't yet know that it would make me a chopo. I should have changed into a double breasted suit, hopped into a camaro. . . .or make that a Mercedes. . . . only chopos have camaros. . . .even Joe Dirt had a Hemi .he he he he. . . . .and went to a fine french restaurant and ate frogs legs and drank wine. . . . . . But I didn't. . . .so now I will kill myself and rid the world of one useless Chopo. I will throw on my Presidente tee shirt, pop a bachata CD in the walkman and strip naked. . . .of course hanging my clothes from the bridge like a true chopo, before jumping to my death below. That is how DR1 changed my life. . . . . |

I love this board because of its wealth of information about the Dominican Republic, and that it has so many diverse opinions and people. Most of whom are very nice and extremely helpful.
Before my first 2 week trip to the north coast back in April, I spent several months researching the DR and this board played a big part in that. (I now check in on what's happening at least once a day.) I loved the place so much I decided to move there. (have been thinking about it for many years) I also just got back from a 1 week trip on Saturday and will be making the big move in another 3 1/2 weeks. I think that without this forum and the info contained herein, I would not have been as reassured about making the move. With such diverse opinions, one is able to see this country from many different angles, which helped me to develop a balanced opinion. (some of you sure are opinionated though!) Glad the board is here! Don't sweat the petty things, pet the sweaty things! JimB |

Thus far, what I like best about this forum is:
1) meeting people from anywhere and everywhere- "las amistades". 2) learning about what I do not already know. After all you can't know everything. 3) sharing with people who have a common interest. But to survive on this board you have to have a strong will power to say the very least. What I would do if I did not have DR1 to read: Life has limitless opportunities, it does not begin and end here. I would find something else to read however, I am glad that the forum does exist because I like conversing with interesting people. Chao, LDG. |

Y'know, the thread title at first messed with my head - I could not for the life of me think how a webboard could impact my life? But then I started thinking of the time when we researched coming to the DR, and I was simply too damn scared to post anything on this board - for just on a year I simply read, searched and looked at information. (Newby's are lucky these days, most everybody has turned over a new leaf and been reborn in a more gentle incarnation). So, one day, I scraped up enough courage and asked if anyone could assist with renting a house. When nobody killed me, I asked about a car and Hillbilly taught me the real meaning of diddlin' - Like this --"I done diddled me a good mule". This was my first lesson in the Dominican Republic and a good lesson it was.
So yes, DR1 has had an impact on my life. I get most of the news from here (now I can read more Spanish, so newspapers are finding their way back into my life). I have met some of the best and the worst people that I've known on this board, I have shared business problems, I've ranted, learnt about power outages and how to deal with them, tried to help others with their problems, closed down Rocky's after Scott's DR1 parties (bet none of you knew that), gone car shopping with Johnny Honda, fought political fights, had my fair share of differences with moderators and done my share of newby bashing -- and generally been a part of the DR1 community. One thing about the DR1 board became clear to me and that is that I have really really benefitted from being part of this community. So, I try to give back as much as I received. |
