Yeah, kinda like people who post cryptic leading threads, leaving the reader scratching his balls in confusion. and now i have this white gunky stuff under my fingernails. 8) actually, my pet peeve language wise is GRAMMAR. at this point, most Americans are illiterate about when to use "Less" and when to use "Fewer". |

I've seen the same thing happen with people who don't know they have silver coins. For instance, I saw an ebay auction with a roll of wheat cents, a roll of old Jefferson nickels and a roll of merc dimes. Nowhere in the auction did the seller acknowledge they were silver dimes (he just called them dimes) and the buy it now price for all of them was like $60. If you search ebay diligently you can find these gems every once in a while. Hell, not too long ago I got lucky with a pair of gold coin cufflinks under melt.

... Wife and I just returned from the church rummage sale. Me? I wander around in the books, just to be supportive. And of course, to lug things out to the car. LOL Anyhow, I spotted a small hardback on proper grammar, and flipped to the index for few/fewer vs. less/least. WHEW! I'm edumacated all bedder now. Had me going there, Gunny, because I don't think I remember being taught this in grammar class decades ago. Fewer words mean less is more, right? LOL beefsteak |

.....not too long ago I got lucky with a pair of gold coin cufflinks under melt. However, I wasn't willing to take the risk b/c the way that seller took the photos, didn't show any difference between the definitely more yellow coins than the 14K surrounds. No help looking at the seller's "back view" either. What made you overcome that obvious "blurring" of the lines and take the risk? I didn't see any loopholes in the description that would have allowed you to return for a refund if you "guesstimated" wrong. Nice nab, by the way. Just wondering what tipped you to giving that one a "Go"..... $380 seems to be a pretty big gamble, but maybe that's just my S/S check talkin'. beefsteak |

Thanks for the additional photos. I mean that. They are not additionally conclusive of a 22K AGE coin coloration, however.
However, I must confess I'm STILL not seeing the more buttery yellow of 22K gold genuine American Gold Eagle fractional coin against the more brassy yellow of 14K surrounds, madfranks. Do you have any 24K gold (Maple or Panda or Philharmonic) you can like prop up between your new cufflinks and retake a photo if you have the patience to continue this discussion? If so, then perhaps your camera can pick up the missing nuanced way buttery 24K yellow and simultaneoulsy re-calibrate within the same photo the surface colors of both the 14K housing and the 2 rounds inserted as color contrasting in this item. Not all people who make counterfeit rounds whether stamped or poured & cast items mark them COPY as the law requires. But then I'm not telling you anything you don't already know about karat stamping, I'm certain. Using your math on the 14K hardware holding your rounds, (the cuff link holder if you please) @ $1650 gold would indicate actual gold value of the jewelery blanks themselves to be: $290 value for those 9.4 grams 14K holder, and would put you (bought in at $380) at a -$90 on the transaction instead of the gain. You are a braver ebayer than I due to the wide variety of eBay photographs where snapping pix of gold is concerned. Tom D made gold picture taking look easy, yes? ![]() Helen wants to know if you're going to wear them, socially? Hey, I gotta humor her, right? You know what they say about the happy wife...... There's actually a really useful website/tool to find misspellings. I've scored Silver using it at 50% of the spot cost. I'm only sharing it since too many people know about it now and it's not a good trick anymore. It will work in other categories outside of Silver I believe.
http://www.missing-auctions.com/ Just select a category, then type in what you're looking for, and it will generate a bunch of misspellings for you and give you a search. Fairly useful tool. |
