Tech assistance request - searching
I'm running a windows with a useless search tool. Savy users will know this platform.
Basically the search tool does not find any documents/files etc when searching on words known to be in the docs. i.e. copying a word from a doc and searching for that word in that folder returns no results. Always been like this because that is the tools level of capability. Well done MS. I am looking for a search tool that works without first indexing the whole computer. Anyone using such a beast they could recommend please? Thanks |
After some preliminary searching, it looks like you are going to have to use some sort of script, python or vbs, this functionality is not available in windows from what I can tell.

Thanks TNE. I feared you are right.
I did find a tool I can live with called locate32. It allows me to limit the source folders for the indexing and works well. It can find text inside quite a lot of document types. It is also pretty quick. It also doesn't send indexes anywhere which is good. It does not search archive files. |
It's not surprising that someone made a tool. There were a lot of people talking about this concept, and it seems like a common idea for a program.
Out of curiosity, how much data are you searching through? |
