Default Microwaves and cancer.
I'm stuck inthe house today so it came across my mind the amount of people getting cancer seems to be on the increase, or maybe just we are better at detecting the various forms of cancer now.

But anyway I was wondering what you guys think of microwaves for cooking? I tend to always use the conventional method to cook anything but sometimes i need the micro because im in a hurry "the food always tastes like crap tho". I also came across this link

http://www.relfe.com/microwave.html

What you guy's think ?

Or the food designed for the microwave is worse.

It is pretty ironic that there are carcinogens too when you cook stuff in a pan too long.

So the problem would seem to be overcooking / heating food? obviously tends to happen more in a microwave.

No, I was more pointing at the fact that there is a whole lot of ways to prepare food in a way that it is a little harmfull.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with microwaved food. All it does is heat the food, there is no "radiation" left in the food. It doesn't destroy vitamins (at least no more than any other kind of cooking, and on some cases can be better). That case quoted of the blood heated in a microwave is another one of the those urban myths. I wish I could find the link now but it didn't happen exactly the way that is made out in these scare stories.

I know ther eis no radiation, my point was more to do with damaging the proteins i nthe foods etc.

There is no credible scientific evidence linking microwave oven use to cancer what so ever.

True. Microwaves have a longer wavelength than visible light. If microwaves were to cause cancer, then radio waves would be devastating.

So for lack of evidence you choose to ignore protection?

Dude, We are not saying microwaves cause cancer, but more to the effect it has on food that in return can put you at higher risk of getting cancer.

Actually, I used to laugh at these guys too...

...until the day I got a microwave-tester in my hands, and used it next to a cell phone, a wireless house-phone and... a microwave oven.

Then I got scared.

Why should I be worried about something that isn't true?

Why would you be scared? Microwave ovens do leak a certain amount of microwaves, but it's only if it's over a certain level that you need to be worried.
