work for jag and was out in Spain for the dealer launch the roads down there are perfect and even better are completly empty out off season, we drove the entire range off cars but the best of them was the twin Supercharged SV8 at £55000 (0-60 in 4.9 and limited 155 mph ) the thing has computer controled CATS suspension Dynamic Stability control and a setting that i grew to love "track mode"
track mode is where the flappy paddles on the steering wheel become your only means of changing gear, well i was fully "need for speed" trained and had been usng this method for years on the PC games i was straight in and took to it perfectly, the thing even pliped the throtle on down changes we were not driving alone but one other person was in the car and we too turns there were 7 cars in convoy and one out in front about half mile up the road looking for safty issues, must have been a right sight to some of the people working the feilds 7 cars in close proximity doing 150-240kph it was just like a scene out of top gear when they were looking for there ideal driving road well i can tell you i found mine with a combination of the car the power the roads and the driving sensation it was just like the need for speed sim had become reality, the induction roar sound of the 4.2 V8 sucking air in to feed its superchargers is just UNBELIVABLE and to accelerate hard and do it agian and again is the stuff off dreams, there was one mountain pass where the instructor was in the lead car and he anounced he was going to pick up the pace ( read " lets have a race" ) and he bolted off not wanting to give in so easy i gave chase, he had lived out there for 3 months and did the same session to every group as litterally thousands were having there dealer launches he knew the roads like the back of his hands, i stayed with him and follwed his lines the car was flat and undramatic it was under heavy load and you could feel all four wheels near the edge of adhesion it was close to a 4 wheel drift after 4 km we were at the top of the mountain and i was the safety distance behind him of 200m around 1 min later the rest of the 5 cars came up behind us and into sight i felt rather proud look forward to seeing them on the roads they are truly awsome and if you get the chance you must drive one, the entire range has flappy paddles just not "track mode" |
