They say he blacked out. I can only assume he caught a glimpse of the sticker price on a Jetta 2.0T.

This thread is just to funny.

On I side note. At the Newark NJ port, it is known that sometimes fleet pickup trucks would disappear and once in a while they would have to go through under water on the side dock and would find them there badly damaged. What was happening was sometimes drivers would park the pickups on the edge where there's no traffic. The keys are always inside for anyone to use. The big cranes would got all around the dock picking up and dropping off containers and sometimes hit and push the pickups over the dock without ever noticing. It's very tight with the stacked container lanes. It's so noisy in the crane that they didn't even notice or even feel it. crane vs. pickup is like flickering a bug off your hand.

Why do Americans hate VW so much? Am I missing something?

A bare bones V8 Mustang can be had for 25 to 27k and a GTI with all the baubles can hit 30k. I seen the stickers on the GTIs and oh lordy! The local dealer has 8 in stock all parked on the lot and not having seemed to move in ages. The V6 Mustang is even less expensive and is also a hoot to drive. Factor in occasional incentives on the Mustang and it becomes much more tasty. The Mini is ironically more like what a GTI was when it first arrived: small, light, affordable sort of, and a blast to drive.

The more realistic parallel to the GTI, the Honda Civic Si, is much cheaper, even comparing base prices. Even more so considering the aforementioned fact that, loaded, a DSG-equipped GTI tops $30K.

True. I'd like to see VW send--in addition to the Chinese Jetta and Passat replacements--a Polo hatchback with the 2.0T, no DSG, and no AWD as the GTI for around 15k.

The GTI--yes that's how it's marketed--is a great vehicle. It's just not worth the price. And even if it were priced penny for penny with the Civic Si, people would take the more reliable Honda I would predict. Now if the 30K GTI had the 3.6 VR6 under the hood--it won't fit...why is that VW?...previous Golfs swallowed the VR6--then we would be talking.

I see we went back to the same old VW discussions, lol. The Drivers Wanted comment was hilarious though!
