Ornette on CBC

Did anyone hear the interview with Ornette Coleman on CBC? It was on the 'Q' program, Radio 1. It may be available on the CBC website as a podcast.

One of my best musical experiences was opening for Prime Time at the Commodore in 1988 with Lunar Adventures and having Ornette tell me after how much he liked our music.

It doesn't get much better. At least it hasn't lately!

Only caught the first 5 minutes of the actual radio interview, but just finished listening to the full "director's cut."

What a hoot! I understood even less of what Ornette Coleman was saying than did Jian Ghomeshi. Hearing that gives me an appreciation of what it might be like to interview Wayne Shorter. Jian really struggled to make sense of the answers Ornette gave.

Still, it made me smile lots and laugh a couple of times, and what did come across clearly is that Ornette is a wonderful human being -- tolerant, patient, down to earth and humble -- even if his musical ideas are difficult for ordinary people like me to grasp.

Thanks for the download link, Nou.

Neat that they used my two favourite Ornette tunes in the package - "Lonely Woman" and "Turnaround".

Sometime during the early '70s, I bumped into Ornette and Dewey on the subway. A sweet encounter. Unexpected. I found both to have all those qualities that Ben mentions. Plus - we had a great laugh. Reassuring to know Ornette can still play jive-master of obfuscation. People seem to like that.
