Default Mike Allen interview
Mike Allen interview

Thanks, Brian (and Mike!).

Interesting to read about what Mike thinks needs to happen to make a great "Mike Allen" album, his stay in New York, how he came to move to Vancouver and the evolution of his records, including how and why he chose George Mcfetridge and Bruno Hubert to play piano on two of his most recent recordings.

And I've always wanted to ask Mike what it was like to study with Joe Henderson, so it's nice to have that question answered.

I was surprised to read he doesn't listen to records that much.

All I can attend of the jazz festival this year is the first weekend, but one group I'm definitely looking forward to catching is Mike and Julian's group in Gastown on the Saturday.

Brian, you've missed your calling....you, with your perceptive questions have brought out the best in one of Vancouver's most important players.Mike as usual, was lucid and direct about his motivations in music and his comments about his time with the often mysterious and oblique Joe Henderson were especially revealing. Good on both of you carry on.
