Default How did MS become the biggest softco in the world?
when they advertised like this in the 1980's

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGvHNNOLnCk

Steve Balmer in 1986... Back then MS has to compete, so the software was pretty cheap.

Look at the other Balmer videos, sadly no.

That's a different clip... and that's not a home video either, it's a dev conference.

The guy is a tool, no doubt. He used to drag people into the office on Easter Sunday to get 'Project Updates' just to make sure people were 'on-board' and 'comitted' - endless number of devs quit during the Chicago (Win95) project, entirely because of him, delaying it by years.

The guy is a loser. When he took over MS in 2000, the share price went from $57 to $23 and he also managed to get $7 billion knocked of the value of MS earlier this year when he attacked Wall St for being worried about Vista.

He's a prize turd... and I'd really like to know what he has over Gates, to have held he position for so long.

Sounds like I am the only person here to back up his opinions with facts.

Well I would venture a wild guess that he wasn't the sole reason that Microsoft's stock went down in 2000 as you suggested.

He's absolutely insane, but would probably be tons of fun to drink with.

btw, every time I see softco from the thread title in the RC, I'm like, "wtf is MS the biggest softtaco in the world?"

One thing's for sure, the federal antitrust case had absolutely no play in the fact the stock went down. It was completely because of Balmer... right? [rofl]

Microsoft seems to be going back to its roots by charging less for their new OS (Windows 8). However, instead of shooting them towards the top of the fortune 500 I think it'll drive them into the ground. What a horrible day for computing.
