Default God this brings back our childhood.
I hope I speak for everyone when I say this brings back when times were so much simpler. I wish I could relive this era of my life when Pete and Pete were on Snick Saturday Nights along with Salute Your Shorts, Double Dare, Wild n' Crazy Kids and Are you Afraid of the Dark. This was the euphoria of everything because it makes me think back on those awesome nights back when kids didn't have responsibilities and playing was the only requirement of living life. Kids are robbed today of damn good teen shows.

Somebody needs to buy me Pete and Pete on DVD and send it to me for Xmas.

yea, I was all into Salute Your Shorts, Wild and Crazy Kids, All That, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Angery Beavers, Doug, Kenan and Kel, Rock's Modern Life, Hey Arnold, Alex Mack, Ren and Stimpy, etc., but I really didn't like Hey Dude, Saved by the Bell, Kablaam, and Clarrissa much...Real Monsters just looked super-ugly to me, so I didn't watch that much...Pete and Pete would lie somewhere in the middle of all those shows. it wasn't one of my favs, but I still liked it.

I assume it doesn't occur that the current shows aren't aimed at you and that's why you don't like them?

I mean, I happily waffle on about how old kids TV is better than what's on now, but the kids of today will be saying the exact same thing in twenty years time.

Now Rene.

Often on the heavy side I would agree with you but I can't say that now. Times have changed that much is known and with changing times comes the change of style in teenage shows. More skin, more hip music more raunchier skits in general. Sure the early and mid 90s provided things that wouldn't of been keen to be shown in the 50's but having watched what I have with my nephews (Drake and Josh is about the best thing out there in my opinion for a teenager to watch) there's just nothing out there that's more down to earth as the stuff we watched growing up. Now I know I say this as a 21 year old with a lot of aging to do but everything today no matter what station it is if it's aimed for kids the level of comedy it has to be so outrageous and surreal that they just fit it in a show for the sake of whatever. What's considered "how a teenager or kid lives a day to day life to relate to" is filled with too much over the top yelling, screaming and unnecessary violence and insane flapping of the arms.

Maybe it's a little bit of me being stubborn but dammit I suspend reality and adulthood once in a while to be on the same wavelength as my 10 year old nephews to get into this stuff and while I understand what there aiming for, as said above so much of it is just garbage that doesn't even attempt to relate to the viewer at home but instead enforces the child to believe the wacky antics going on is what being a kid is all about. Pete and Pete may not be the best example but in the end it was a simplified show, it had a hidden moral in the end a message if you will and it was entertaining. Nothing flashy, no unnecessary special effects, just good old fashioned enjoyment any kid could into. That's my two cents though good luck because I'm not even sure much of it has any clarity.

edit: After reading this post I am almost sure I made no actual valid point against Rene, point lost for me. Maybe I am just being shallow.

I have to agree with both of you, I mean honestly ALL the shows mentioned by ShoNuff were my favorites growing up (Salute your Shorts was at the top), I had to watch them everyday. But at the same time, times change people change, the days of Hannah Montana, Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Drake and Josh, Degrassi (which has always sounded like an anime show to me), all that stuff is the equivalent to young teens nowadys as our shows were to us.

But I do believe, all biased aside that our shows were superior. Anti, what I poise you to do is, sit your nephew down in front of you tube and have him watch an episode or two of our shows and see if he likes them, and get a response on it, be nice to do a little test you never know he may think our shows were supierior as well.

Even worse is the one show I watched growing up all the time... The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers turned into a complete pile of lame. And even Billy still makes appearances in these craptastic shows. He must need the money desperately.

.....

There was a time when it wasn't a complete pile of lame?

Awh that brings back childhood TV memories. I remember watching TV everyday after school (wasn't a big Weekend cartoon kid). Brings back the days of Home Improvement, Simpsons, and Full House.

Shameful or not I agree, my childhood saw much of the power rangers including Jason. I don't think at the time there was more a kickass (sort of meathead) like him for kids to really get into at the time. I loved when he would pwn Tommy during confrontations. Man at such a young age of 10 did I have such weird feelings of wanting to bone Kimberly the pink ranger in ways that my inner youth couldn't understand.

Don't get me wrong, I watched them too. Hell, I think I even owned the VHS of the first movie.....but c'mon, they were always rather terrible.

Oh of course there is no denying that especially when you consider that for nearly 60% percent of the show they basically took the japanese fighting scenes and dubbed American voice overs over them. The other 40% percent were the parts where absolutely had to reshoot where there was no fighting showing the defenders of Angel Grove. In the end of the day while it was a part of some demographics growing up there is no denying that the most important about of that show wasn't it's over the top generic guitar rock intro or it's endless supply of putty patrol, oh no comrades it was about the greatness of Bulk and Skully who are at a convention somewhere as we speak shilling whatever merchandise they have to earn a single penny while that loveable goofball music is playing in the back ground.

my older brother loved Mighty Morphing Power Rangers, but even then, younger than him I did not like it at all and thought it was terrible. I was more about the X-Men, Spider-Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc.

Power Rangers was definitly an earlier era than the Nick shows, but I was huge on the power rangers...I can definitly say that I was more into Power Rangers than I am into Dragonball Z and Wrestling nowadays...I can't even express how obsessed with Power Rangers I was when I was a kid, after Power Rangers Turbo went off the air I stopped watching.

Then it was either the era of Nick or Fox kids (X-Men, Spiderman, The Tick, Bobbys World all that great stuff) that can next.

yall know the yellow power ranger died in real life right? The asian one..
All That and Kenan and Kel was the shit.I used to watch all of them ,lol.I used to like Goosebumps too,Hang Time,City Guys California Dreams was the shit too! LOL .That was my saturday morning line up.I mostly watched that show for the chicks tho, pretty hot at the time

What was the name of the show, the one on Nickelodeon ,where the character was a girl who could turn into a silver puddle after she got messed up by some nucleur waste??

I think those shows we used to watch as a kid are better then todays stuff.Back then, everything wasn't so..money motivated? Sometimes when I go in the store all I see is Hannah Montana/Spongebob etc. It's crappy stuff, quality wise. And on top of that, expensive too! But,who am I to say?

I never understood the Dragon Ball thing. I think it's one of the most seizure/headache inducing shows ever.

Yeah looking back on it now, every episode of the Power Rangers was exactly the same. They would get attacked by a group of puddies, morph, defeat whatever monster there was to defeat, then Rita, or that red bad guy (cant recall his name at the moment) would throw down their weapon towards earth, the monster would grow to epic proportions, the zords would come out, the mega zord would defeat the monster, thus saving the town yet again.

But yeah man i totally agree. The days of Double Dare, GUTS, Legends of the Hidden Temple (which had quite possibly the worst host i've ever seen in my life), Get The Picture, Hey Dude, Salute Your Shorts, All That, Kenan and Kel, Clarissa Explains it all, Are You afraid of the dark etc, definitely kept me entertained during my youth. The only show i can somewhat tolerate on Nick these days is that Icarly show, because it has that one girl from The School of Rock in it...its a shame that todays generation didn't have the privilege of growing up during the greatness that was Snick, but i guess that just means we were the priviliged few haha. I still catch those shows whenever i can, even if i have to watch them on Youtube, which i do on occasion.
