Visited Hyundai Genesis Production line + Lambda engine factory

Today I went to Hyundai's Ulsan factory (the biggest car factory in the world) to see the Gensis. We were only granted access this morning so we rushed there and my dad's friend, the head of all 7 engine factories at Ulsan, showed us around the production line and I saw over 100 Genesis BH330s and BH380s ready to deliver and still in production.

After the tour of the production line, we went for a ride along with Hyundai Ulsan's "best engine guys" and inside the Genesis BH330, at high revs, it was quiet inside and the wood (real) which was spread all across the dash was nice. The engine was smooth and when the driver floored the gas, the auto gearbox smoothly shifted down and a massive surge of power was delivered. Back at the garage, when I asked the engine guys about the BK's engine options after spotting a Garrett turbocharger in a parts bin, they replied by telling me about how they were going to fit a Turbo I-4, a 3.8L V6 and a Tau V8!!! I asked them about it again to make sure that I had heard correctly and they assured me that it was going to be put in the BK.http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...milies/eek.gif They said that if they didn't offer the V8 in the US, it wouldn't be able to compete well or something like that...

After that, they let me take some pics of the Gensis and I went to the Lamda engine factory where they explained every step of the manufacturing process to me.

On the way out of the factory grounds, I spotted a camouflaged i30 wagon/Elantra Touring but my camera wasn't at the ready... When I asked my dad's friend about the VI (Equus/Centennial replacement), they said that it was too early in it's development stages for them to get their hands on one. Also, he said that the BH in fact is a Dynasty successor, not an Equus replacement.

I'm at a friend's house right now so I can't upload any pictures now  but hopefully I will be able to upload some on the 7th (1 day before the Gensis launch in Korea)

Nice! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/cool.gif

So the V8-in-the-coupe idea is alive and well again? I thought Hyundai was against the idea due to weight, but I guess not.

Usually you hear people say "get the big engine" when it comes to cars, but it sounds like you had a lot of fun in "just" the V6 model. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif

A V8 in the Genesis coupe--even if it slightly upsets dynamics--is needed just to recalibrate what people think of when they say "Hyundai".

Upset what dynamics?

Evelinessa 06-02-2008 04:13 AM

a v8 coupe from hyundai would be hot

usaneisfiecup 06-02-2008 04:36 AM

Well, It'd be hotter than a FWD 4 cylinder minivan from Hyundai. Which is hotter than a 2 stroke motorbike from Hyundai.

Make it excellent rather than good. Then I'll believe it.

Nice pix.
Did you sit in the Genesis and if so, what was it like?
I thought the Genesis, VeraCruz and Elantra were made in either U.S or South Korea. I didn't know they were made in Australia.
