Quote »Next week Apple is going to reveal the new iPod and itÂs going to be a Nano successor. Apple invited jopurnalists to an event on August 7, which we assume would be the official press statement. The known details are these: it will play video at 320 x 240 pixels(the UI leak wouldÂve given you an accurate idea about what to expect if it was still online), 4GB and 8GB models ($299 and $399), 2-inch screen and new colors will be available. Looks pretty exciting, and word is itÂs going to be dubed ÂNano TouchÂ. via [9to5mac, via generationmp3] yes I am giving you mac fans permission to discuss it. glad they kept the boring ipod design, :P more info here http://9to5mac.com/ipod-nano-v...63345 keep it civil. enjoy. |

I think the shots of Microsoft using PowerMac G5s to power their XBOX 360 demos at E3 2 years ago was hilarious. Yeah, Macs aren't for gaming? Or when Microsoft uses iMacs to demo Vista? lol?
But as for the announcement next week, it's supposed to be for a new iMac (that potentially also uses the multi-touch interface that the iPhone uses), a new Apple Keyboard (which I'm excited about since it uses the flat keys that the MacBook uses, which I prefer over standard desktop keys), and iLife '08 (no commentary here. XD). I saw the thread title and I was like, "Oh gosh, Ascariss is gonna lock it soon" until I noticed Ascariss was the one that opened it. Shocker. :O |

Well, here's what I know since I'm a big Mac fan myself, thanks to my super MacBook. The iMac is supposedly being renamed to Mac, following the iBook's transition to MacBook. The Mac will be brushed-metal from some rumors. The keyboard was already leaked (Engadget and TUAW) and it is the flat-key variant. Apple confirmed this was a event for Mac only (yesterday's confirmation from Apple via Engadget) so no new iPods are expected. I hope the MacBook doesn't get any upgrades until Mick Jagger heads for retirement as Apple is really good in tempting folks with new products every month.

Uh, no way in hell would the iMac become the Mac. If they were to do that name change, they would have done it when they replaced the PowerBook like with the MacBook Pro line.
The MacBook won't get any upgrades until November. Likey changes is a (finally) upgrade to the Santa Rosa, which also means a significantly (but still integrated) graphics chip. |

Quote, originally posted by SHEPO »Is the new Nano going to be so expensive because of the touch-screen technology? I mean the iPod Video is $249 (30GB) or $349 (80GB), so I would think that the video replacement would have to come soon so it doesn't cannibalize sales of the new Nano.
Yeah, and prices are going down daily, I've seen the 30GB all the way down to $229 and the 80GB at $299. Either way, I'm pretty sure it'll be the best looking, well at least sexiest mp3 player they've released to date. |

Not sure...
Quote »Apple also slashed the price of its iPhone, barely two months after the much-hyped device first came on the market. That news appeared to cause some concern among investors. Apple's shares began to drop following the iPhone announcement Wednesday and closed trading down more than 5% at $136.76. About 82 million shares traded hands -- more than double the stock's normal daily average. Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs announced the changes at an event in San Francisco on Wednesday. "We've clearly got a breakthrough product, and we want to make it affordable for even more customers as we enter this holiday season," Jobs said in reference to the price cut on the iPhone. The price of the 8GB version of iPhone will drop by $200 to $399. That's $100 cheaper than the current price of the 4GB version of the device, which Jobs said will continue to be sold "while supplies last." While Jobs said that Apple remains on target to meet it goal of selling at least 1 million iPhones by the end of September, one analyst said that investors were likely interpreting the sharp price cut as a sign that demand for the iPhone is weak. http://www.marketwatch.com/new...ntTop |

Thanks knicks. It's about time it dawned on apple that the price of the phone was killing it's appeal. Now if they only made it available outside of ATT. Does anyone know if that crack that kid discovered to make it work with other carriers is available? I would love to have an iphone that worked with verizon wirelss.

![]() I like it a lot too. Basically an Iphone without the phone? That might be something very appealing for me if I could figure out who the internet interphase works. is it a regular wifi connection or is it something else? can it hook up to telephony networks or do you have to be in a hot-zone? I'm guessing a Hot zone and if you want wireless telephony network access you get an iPhone (and enjoy the bundled phone). Does anyone know for sure? |

yeah, that'd be nice! Verizon wants all it's phones to have the same layout. I don't know if the iPhone is considered a PDA? that may make an difference and convince them to consider it in the future. |
