Our chance to kill ethanol subsidies!
http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=21933
Call your House State Representative. Its crazy 39% of corn production is used to put in our vehicles. |
What state?
|
Nebraska uses 10% ethanol in it's middle grade fuel. At least for NE I believe they may subsidies it because the mid grade fuel cost less than the high grade fuel.
|
is it crazy that 39% is used for fuel, or crazy that the government PAYS farmers NOT to grow corn to help dictate the market[ban]
|
Repealing the ethanol subsidy is a step backwards imo.

Don't like ethanol. They use 10% ethanol in the 91RON fuel here in Australia. It's crap, it gives the 91RON fuel an octane level of about 94 so slightly better the normal 91RON without ethanol, but it burns quicker resulting in poorer fuel consumption.
In my 1992 Mazda 626 2.0L I get under 600km to a tank ( about 7.5L/100km or more) using 91RON with 10% ethanol. However when I use 98RON (which is what I mainly use) I can get well over 600km per tank or around 7-7.2L/100km. Even got it as low as 6.2L/100km on the highway. And it only cost about $0.15 - 0.20 more and is better for the engine and gives the car a little more oomph. Really don't see the point in ethanol in cars, besides it giving it a little higher octane it doesn't have any benefits. Also they removed the subsidies here in Australia so 91RON with 10% ethanol now costs the same as standard 91RON. |
Some claim that 39% of the corn produced in the U.S. is currently going into fuel tanks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weasel_word

I think ethanol is also made from wood, but I guess the sugar content in corn is higher.

I'd also be curious about the Tabacco subsidies - are they still in operation? |
