OK so last night, a few friends and I went out to a few pubs and had a bit of an incident. First place we went to asked us all for ID (Still happens every now and then, but no big deal) so we all handed over our driving licenses like normal. The person behind the bar looked at them for a while a bit confused and then said she had to go and check with a manager and went off for quite a while.
When she came back she said "We'll accept it this time but you need to get a new one" We asked what she meant and she said that the "older style" ones are no longer accepted and that the new ones are a bit less flexible, have the name embossed and a holographic steering wheel on them. We all passed our tests about 6-7 years ago whereas I remember my brothers one looks like what she was describing (He passed his test last year). Either way we took our drinks and that was that. A little while later we went to another pub nearby and the girl behind the bar asked for our ID's as well. Looked at them in the same way before asking when we got them, our dates of birth etc etc before saying "This doesn't look like mine" (She looked about 18 herself) We explained what we'd been told in the other place that apparently there are 2 types of driving license and that its just the ones that have come out in the last couple of years that have the hologram steering wheel etc, after a bit of back and forth she just said "Sorry I don't feel comfortable accepting these, bring your passports next time"! At which point we just left and went somewhere else. Has anyone else heard anything about this at all? I was only really vaguely aware that there was a new type of license and the differences are minimal. We just found it strange that having never even heard of this happening before that it happened twice in the same night. I've looked around the net and can find nothing official about any of this All in all, pretty frustrating! Especially as we are all 23-24! |
