Protesters or plain old vandals?

Anyone else disgusted with the way troublemakers use protests as a cover for causing all sorts of trouble - burning cars, looting shops, attacking Police, etc?
I'm all for peaceful protest, but when they start destroying the property and livelyhoods of innocent people, I'm also all for the Police prosecuting the trouble makers to the full extent of the law!
It's a global problem and there's no excuse for it, at least this time the Police in London have been able to make over 200 arrests!

I assume you're referring to the chaos in London yesterday. Disgusting behaviour imo. People of course have the right to protest, but I draw the line at wilful property damage, mindless acts of vandalism and desecration of national monuments. Look what they did to Nelson's Column and Trafalgar Square!

Clean up's going to run into tens of thousands according to Westminster Council. And the "protests" were supposed to be about cuts due to lack of available money! [rolleyes]

There was a thread about the protest on another forum where I took issue with what was being done, but according to some there it was acceptable because people are "angry". [rolleyes]

what i find even more laughable is the TUC et al actually have no answer what to do - they protest the cuts but when asked ` whats your solution` change the subect

morons.

I agree that its especially stupid in this context ("There's no money, lets voice our displeasure by creating large expense and breaking ****) but I can certainly see the viewpoint sometimes - if you have a government in charge who clearly don't care about the opinions of the electorate, why do you think continuing to simply voice your opinions will change anything.

Like I said, I don't AGREE with it, but I can understand why some may view it as a legitimate option. It's just a shame that most people who carry out the violence are just looking for any old excuse to be violent so have no care as to their target. In a way, I'd actually have more respect if they attacked the seats of power, the government buildings as opposed to just spray graffiti on monuments, throwing paint at shops and tipping over bins......

The majority are protesters, but there was a small minority of vandals intent on causing chaos and destruction. What makes it even worse is that most of the cuts they are protesting about are necessary. I would rather have a government with a close eye on the purse strings than live in a bankrupted country like Ireland.

Agreed. the only cuts I really disagree with are to the police force, and to a lesser extent the armed forces. Most people are just too stupid to understand the need for such cuts, and seem to forget that they voted in the person who said what they'd do is make drastic cuts!

labour said they would get 1/2 the deficit in 5 years - the lib/con coilition will get rid of it.

LOL - unions are a joke. They have to justify their own existence so they instigate strikes and pay action to look like they are doing something for their members. The irony is that even though their action may well cause the target company to go out of business due to higher wage costs they can't afford they will still do it as it means they are making money.

They take advantage of the fact that a lot of their members are not politically minded so don't see that they are being used to further the unions objectives.
