It's always common in the Yu-Gi-Oh! series for the parents to not really have any impact on the anime, the only exception would be Yusei's Dad.

Well, Kaiba's adopted father had a pretty big role if I remember correctly. So, Kaiba's and Yusei's fathers really made an impact. Lol@Yugihasadad?

Joey's parents got divorced and his dad raised him while his mother raised Serenity!
