Thanks for the recommendations guys, I will use this thread as reference when I go looking. Bloody annoying blu-rays cost so much more in the shops than online.

www.blu-ray.com has good reviews regarding the audio and video quality as well as full resolution screenshots.

Some of the best looking movies I have are:
Baraka (best looking one out there)
Curious Case of Benjamin Button
All my Pixar films
Blade Runner
Inception

I have over 150 BDs and every single one is a significant boost over the DVD, even older ones. Studios have their transfers down and now that they moved away from MPEG2 years ago, they all have IQ gains.

(The Dark Knight looks nice but they use a lot of edge enhancement to compensate the 35mm scenes to the 70mm ones.)

Damn i was going to say inception... one of the best films ive ever seen . loved it.

Beauty and the Beast has the sharpest, most eye poppingly awesome transfer I've seen recently.

If you're into that sort of thing of course.

but I've always been a little bothered by the (lack of) lipsync on the dvd. Is that just me?

@ Purext: Funnily Inception for me was the most fun the first time I saw it. Thought it had replay value, but was disappointed the 2nd time I saw it in the cinema! Not necessairly a bad thing of course.
IMO Shutter Island on the other hand was deffinately worth a second view. But haven't seen the bluray release.

watched shutter island the other day and was a very good movie... not really a movie to show off your system but a good movie in general.

I don't think I saw the DVD, last time I watched it was on laserdisc. If you are a fan of the movie in any way it will blow your socks off.

Every single frame is razor sharp and filled with the most amazing colour, it looks so good, it could have been made yesterday.

I'd second Back to the future trilogy. It was actually ready for release in 2008 but they waited until October 2010 for the 25th anniversary to release it. I loved seeing more details on screen despite seeing it dozens of times before.

Also Terminator 2 is pretty cheap to pick up. £9 on amazon for the Skynet edition.

T2 and Back to the future - can you get 2 better films?!

Kick Ass and Blade Runner - 2 for £20

For reference they also have Spiderman Trilogy for £19.99 and Lord of The Rings Trilogy for £19.99!

The extended versions are the ones released on the DVD's and are substantially better. I refuse to buy the theatrical versions purely as a stand against the piss taking of studios to squeeze more cash out of unsuspecting consumers.

The transfers are also mediocre on the theatrical trilogy already released on blu-ray. First one is crap and the other two are just alright.

EDIT: Just found it on Amazon. I also noticed you can get Up for £11.93. That's for the version that includes 2 blu-rays, the DVD and digital copy. For some reason it's cheaper than the version that just has 1 BD and 1 DVD, which is £17.93?! Odd pricing
