Default Brazen as you like
First job of the day....

Cust: I bought this DVDRW from you last week. It doesn't work.

Me: What seems to be the problem?

Cust: It burns ok, but when I try to watch the movies on my tv it doesn't play.

Me: Do you have an example with you?

Cust: Yeah *hands me 3 discs with recent movie names on them*

Me: Are these films you've downloaded?

Cust: Yeah

Me: *pop one in a display machine, there's a folder on the disc containing the film in avi format and an nfo file* OK, well sir, I can see why it's not working, however I cannot help you with this.

Cust: Why not?

Me: Because what you're doing is illegal.

Cust: So?

Me: I cannot assist you with pirating copyrighted material.

Cust: Why not?

Me: Because it's against the law?

Cust: I bought the DVD's from you, the writer from you, you HAVE to tell me how to burn them so I can sell them!

Me: Sell them?

Cust: Yeah, at the market.

Me: Sir, I really really cannot help you. I'm going to have to ask you to leave.

Cust: This is ridiculous, I've spent loads of money on this sh** and you won't help me! I've a good mind to report you!

Me: Sir, what you're basically doing is like buying a crowbar from B&Q and then asking one of their staff to show you how to break into somones house. I won't help you pirate movies, if you wish to do that then I cannot stop you, however I will not assist you either.

Cust: Fine! I'll ring trading standards and see what they have to say! *stomps out*

Reminded me of back when we used to sell R4 cards and people would get stroppy when we wouldn't help them load pirated games on them.

Haha, another good one.

Having said that, most modern DVD players should play an avi straight off a disc

Most of the ones I've seen will play the DiVX encoded avi's especially.

I suspect it was due to it being in a sub-folder. Either way I'm somewhat amazed by how many people seem shocked we don't give out tech support on illegal activities

But you sell R4's? thats asking for trouble, R4's are only pretty much good for one thing....

whereas dvd's/rw's and writers are for many non illegal activities...

We haven't sold R4's for over a year. Even when we started doing it I expressed to the management that it was effectively selling an item that's purely for piracy use, I got shot down on that one.

Film I tried was Skyline, didn't pay much attention to the others.

I remember last year sometime, I bought a DS from ebay as a present for the ex-wife's Birthday, In the auction it said there was over 200 games, imagine my anger after winning the DS for £215, to eventually receive a DS with an R4 cartridge and a CD full of Pirated games.

I emailed the seller and said that if they didn't refund my cash, I'd be straight onto Ebay, the Cops and Trading Standards, The Seller refunded the money the very next day, as they knew they "didn't have a leg to stand on".

As it is, they've stopped trading the R4's on ebay, because they can only really be used for one purpose, Piracy.

That's not true, they can be used to backup all your games thus stopping people from having to carry around tons of cartridges around.
