So you've never actually been near a subaru have you?

More bulletproof than a Nissan any day.
I think his point was that it's plasticky....as in the perceived quality is low. Which is is. £40k suburus look like £12k city cars inside. I've no doubt that they are probably far stronger than Nissans, but image is everything.

M3 or CTS-V if you're gonna spend that kinda green. Cause isn't that top end evo nearly 50k?
Nah, the MR is still only 38K, and can be had for ~36K with current promos...

I'm heading down to WV for a birthday dinner with my family today (Mine and my stepfather's birthday is Thursday), and am stopping along the way @ several dealers...

Testing (All 2010 models):

Infinit G37S (Sedan) - Checked with the WV Nissan dealer I've gone to for service in the past, and they can service it. This is currently my top pick, cuz it has the same engine as my Z... though I'm thinking Stillen supercharger kit!

Maxima SV w/ Sport

Murano SL (whatever, don't ask... I'm sure you can all guess who is MAKING me look! I'm not sure if she is serious, or replying in jest to me saying I wanted THIS! [rofl])

WRX

EVO MR

Will provide feedback later... Tschuss!

Do you know if they fixed the stereo issue on those cars?

It is something like this: http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f161aa6

Two of my friends have this issue. One is a G35x (coupe) and the other is a G35 sedan.

Happy Birthday, my friend.

You want to ride in the WRX this week? Let me know. I'll be going to the meet tomorrow night at the mall if you want to come with.

Unless you're tracking on the weekends, I don't see the need for the STi. You already have the Z project car and are looking for a DD so get the WRX.

Pros:

It's quick, as quick as the STi
It's spacious.
It's pretty comfortabe ride (see cons though)

Cons:

Headunit/speakers suck ass. I'm still looking to replace them.
Seats could be more bolsterous, I sat in Evo Recaros and almost cried at the suckiness of my seats compared to those. However, my seat felt much better after driving an Impala for 5 days.
Handling is a bit floaty and there is roll in corners, due to the plusher suspension. A quick change to coilovers eliminates this though... also one of my future mods.
The transmission does have its limitations (around 350 awhp) but that's only worrisome if you plan on going that far with the car. STi transmissions are beasts.

Unless you really need the sunroof, I'd go against the premium... the Nav unit still sucks in sound quality and you could do hella better with aftermarket for much lower price. Fogs can be had for $250 off subarugenuineparts.com and the wiring is already in place for them in the base model (yet another of my future plans). The HID beams and the leather seats only come in the Limited model, so there's no change there. You're basically paying 3k more for a hole in the roof and crap sound system.

Personally I would go with the GSR. I watched the evo vs sti top gear review and it's quite convincing.
That review was of an FQ360 Evo over an STi. It wasn't even a fair fight to begin with.

That said, if I had the will to buy an STi (had the money but didn't think it was right at the time) I would have went with an MR instead.

During the end of it they said they would rather buy the GSR because it cost quite a bit less and is almost a evo.
That's what I was basing my opinion on

Also, are you asking LM out on a date? [rofl]
(sorry couldnt help myself :P)

LM: if you go with him, just don't drink or eat anything he supplies (date rape?)

J>K!!!

The GSR IS an Evo, just not the Dual Clutch model, frankly most people prefer the GSR.

And LOL... LM lives across the street from me.

I give another vote for the g37. I have had my 04 g35 for a little over 2 years now and all I can say about it is good things. it rides great, its safe, enough room for the car seat in the back and stroller in the trunck, and if I wanted to i could take it to the track on the weekends. I expect that the g37 will be our next car when my wife finishes residency since we have had such good luck with this one. the 6 speed manual is a must though. I only found 3 used g35s within 100 miles of me with the 6 speed when we were shopping a few years ago, all about the same price, same year but the one I got only had 32k on it vs 74k and 120k for the others. the one with 120k was dark gray with black leather which was what I wanted, but for the difference in mileage I just couldnt do it.

A buddy of mine had an altima with a cvt that blew about the same time I shopping, but my wife loves to drive a manual tranny car as much as I do so it wasnt hard to sell her on the 6 speed version.

only other suggestion is that you might want to go with the g37x. the all wheel drive might come in handy in your area, and the extra weight wont kill it too much. not sure if the x model is available with a manual though.

To be honest I'd puke all over these ricebowls.

I'd rather drive a Golf R. At least I'd have a car.

LM, I'd suggest you and your lady make up a list of what you WANT, would like and don't want in the car, and work from there.
It may be simple things, like 2 or 4 door, hatch/wagon or saloon, 2 or 4 WD, manual or auto. If you intend ski-ing, does it have easily attached racks or can they be carried inside. Perhaps security is important, you carry expensive equipment and firearms, can they be locked out of sight?
When that's established, you can have a good look at what meets your requirements.

Nope, something more like a LAV-25 - lots of room, no parking problems (like it'd be towed or clamped...), all weather or roads, amphibious in case of flooding, etc.
HOWEVER, LM may need to upgrade his weapon licences

I'm gonna go with either the Maxima or G37... I've got my project car to dump money into, so I'd rather go with something a little more sensible!

The trunk on the Maxima is an absolute CAVERN. My buddies and I used to joke and rate trunk space by how many bodies you could fit in there... Well, I'd say a family of 5, their dog and two cats! [rofl]

The G37S takes it up a notch, though... This is what I'm leaning towards. I'm seriously considering throwing the Stillen supercharger kit on it the day I drive it off the lot should it be my final decision. However, I've had a tough time finding a good pic of the needed aftermarket hood to accommodate the Vortech V3 up top, and I don't want to mess up the lines of the car. It looks and handles beautifully for what it is. [thumbup]

As for the ski equipment? If it wouldn't fit inside (it's only ever LadyM and I... her pair of skis, and possibly 2-3 pairs for me), I'd just go with a Yakima or Thule rack.

Looks like you've come to a decision, or at least close... I'm also looking for a new(used) car (had a thread a few pages back). Out of your original options, I would have said a Subaru, either a WRX, or maybe a Legacy GT. Personally, I like the look of the Legacy GTs more than the WRX & STi, and their interior is nicer.

I'm stuck around a $15k budget, so I've gotta find something used, preferably a 2006 model, which can be a bit difficult to find one that looks like it more than likely hasn't been abused. I may just end up going with a base Impreza or Civic Si for a little cheaper.

It shouldn't be too hard to find a Legacy for that money.

I wouldn't buy a G37 if you're keeping the Z as a project car. You get more bang for your buck with a Maxima, and a larger car to boot.

A G37 is good if you're getting the coupe... by the time you get to a well-equipped G37 sedan, you're getting close to $50k... and there are tons of options at that price range.

I don't know how it is in other parts of the world but I think that's quite standard in the US. I asked the salesman from the dealership nearby that question and he quickly told me a family of five. (he kind of sold me with that) [thumbup]
