Default A hypothesis explaining Fringe episode quality
I think I finally figured it out:

Episode quality is inversly correlated with Anna Torv ´s airtime in that episode

It was interesting to start with, then it became the retarded cousin of Lost and I gave up caring.

she is ok to look at, but has the emotional, and acting range of a termite infested tree.

I agree that her acting is pretty bad and I'm not even that great at spotting bad acting.

I don't think her acting's too bad. I believe her as the character and that's what matters to me.

I think she acts exactly the way you'd expect Olivia Dunham to behave. That is the character and she's a decent fit. She also plays the alternate Olivia in a decidedly different fashion that, although similar, is just the sort of difference you'd expect of an alternate universe.

You can judge the show very poorly on its scientific merits. Even if you completely ignore the premise, which is in and of itself plausible given current scientific theory, and judge only on the basis of methodology and technology around the base premise the show's still a 0 out of 10 - absolute nonsense to the power of baloney. If you let that slide, though, it's actually pretty decent TV. I like it.

The musical episode was horrendous and suggests to me that next season might already be the show's last because they never break out in song unless things are going seriously south. The 2 part finale was great, though. Or at least I thought so.

There were a few horrendous episodes around that musical episode, but the last few eps have been on good form again. Maybe now JJ has now finished Lost he's actually giving it some more time.

yes, but the best recent episode has been the one with Bishops past which did have very little airtime of Torv

JJ hasn't been involved in Lost for a long time. And I don't know how involved he is in Fringe either. He's more of a "creator."

Although he does write interesting scripts. http://www.defectiveyeti.com/archives/002478.html
