Snake eats baby chicken alive

Now some of you may not care about this and neither do I, but I assumed snakes kill before they eat. This is the first time I've seen a snake eat it's meal whilst it's still alive, and chirping inside it's stomach.

When I was a kid, my brother and cousin and I caught a snake. We swung it around by it's tail and baby mice flew out of it's mouth! [rofl]

We let the snake go, but I bet he was hungry.

My dads burmese Python always coiled around its food even if was dead to start with, i think that chick is to small for it to coil around properly.

Id love to get a snake but wouldnt like it to swollow its food while alive like that, think i might get a corn snake to go with my lizards.

Pretty pathetic that someone would upload that and gloat about it, and as people have said in some of the Youtube comments :-

1: Snakes generally kill their food before they eat it
2: It's hardly natural behaviour, in nature the chick would generally would have parents to defend it, heck, a pissed off adult rooster is not to be trifled with.
3: It's irresponsible to feed live bait to snakes, not because of any moral issues, but because of the potential damage the bait can inflict on the snake. I've heard of snakes getting their eyes bitten out by live rats before, it's a pretty dumb thing to risk (like some other idiot on Youtube who feeds live shrews to his monitor lizard, when some of them are actually venomous).

Iīve been keeping snakes for almost 20 years now,
point 3 isnīt really a valid one.
Sure once every full moon some dimwit throws in a rat or two, doesnīt stay with the animals, the snake maybe isnīt interested (maybe just not hungry or whatnot) and the rat starts chewing the crap out of the snake.
But fact it, feeding live prey actually has a few benefits vs frosted food.
A. Price, dead/frozen the food is always a bit more expensive (depending on the animal from a few cents up to a few €īs)
B. The nutritious value is higher (some vitamins are destroyed when frozen)
C. Natural Predatory instincts are preserved
D. Some snakes just donīt accept dead prey, and fiddling around in their Terrarium isnīt all that great.
and heck i bet their are a few more if i werenīt to lazy to google.
Most of the time i feed live mice/rats to my snakes, the irresponsible thing to do would be not staying present till the prey is dead, thatīs about it.

btw feeding chicken is pretty lame anyways, the droppings are really stinky wet slushy ****,.. pretty disgusting.

I suppose if they just won't accept dead prey, then that's fair enough. And it's a fair point if you keep an eye on what's going on to ensure there is no harm to the snake. Though if the snake does feed fine on dead prey, I can't see why that's a bad thing.

Ok, but you can work around both of those, it's not a deal breaker to feeding dead bait.

You could say that because it's not a wild animal anymore, there shouldn't be much need to artificially try to preserve it's natural predatory instincts, just as long as it didn't affect it's quality of life. My terrier would love to kill next doors cat, but I don't condone it, and he's perfectly happy on butchers chops and dog biscuits...http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/wink1.gif
