Remake no. 14790: "Alien"
 

In January we broke the news that Robert Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios would be producing a reboot of Predator for 20th Century Fox. Our regular tipster was proven correct once again as the story was confirmed in April. Our tipster even scooped us on who would be penning the remake, now titled Predators.

So Mr. Anonymous is back again. And being that 20th Century Fox is remaking Predator, it doesn't surprise me at all that Fox is also going back to their catalog for a reboot of Ridley Scott's Alien.

What our tipster informed us is that - opposite the Predator situation - the plan is to stick with the original concept of only one alien on the ship.

Michael Costigan, Ridley Scott and even Tony Scott are all on board to produce and have tapped Carl Rinsch to get beyond the camera and bring a new Ripley to the big screen.

Who is Carl Rinsch? I'm being told he's a commercial/music video director and does work for Scott Free Productions, who is also producing the remake.

In the original, the terror begins when the crew of a spaceship investigates a transmission from a desolate planet, and discovers a life form that is perfectly evolved to annihilate mankind. One by one, each crew member is slain until only Ripley is left, leading to an explosive conclusion that sets the stage for its stunning sequel, Aliens (my favorite film of all-time).

Why do the have to remake a classic? The seems to be going through a list of past successful films and remaking each one. [rolleyes]

Have to wonder why they never remake things like say Predator 2, a movie which sucked. At least they'd have a chance at bettering it.

If they use CG it will fail miserably.

First George Lucas raped Indiana Jones, Han Solo and Luke Skywalker....

Now Ridley Scott is planning a long drawn out molestation of Ripley.

You cannot remake classic films.

LEAVE RIPLEY ALONE! If you REALLY want to make bank on the name create a new movie in the same universe. I'd love to see a new alien themed movie that doesn't take a giant piss all over the classic characters.

I am all for reboots, "When they are needed" like Star Trek. However this is the first one I am totally against. There is absolutely no need to remake the original, it was a genre defining classic. They should go for a sequel, and make it on Earth which is what a lot of fans have been wanting. Also make sure Ridley Scott directs it to ensure it has the right atmosphere.

Bad move imo, and Predator was good as one film with Arnie....

I agree totally, I've loved "Alien" since it came out on the big screen. I've always told everyone it was the best scary movie ever. "Aliens" was an action movie. The first is solid from start to finish for me.

For sure, Alien and Aliens are well up there on my list of best films ever, and quite simply don't need to be remade!

I was under the impression the Hollywood writers' strike was over, I guess I was wrong.

I usually don't care about remakes.

But for gods sake, not Alien. The original was perfect and should not be touched.

Did you know that the scene where the alien pops out of the guys body in the mess hall in the first one, was actually shot with only the filming crew and the "dying guy" knowing what was going to happen. All of the other actors, that was their natural reaction!

When the creature burst through the chest a stream of blood shot directly at Veronica Cartwright, shocking her enough that she fell over and went into hysterics.[14][33][38] According to Tom Skerritt: "What you saw on camera was the real response. She had no idea what the hell happened. All of a sudden this thing just came up."[33] The creature then runs off-camera, an effect accomplished by cutting a slit in the table for the puppeteer's stick to go through and passing an air hose through the puppet's tail to make it whip about.[33] The real-life surprise of the actors gave the scene an intense sense of realism and made it one of the film's most memorable moments. During preview screenings the crew noticed that some viewers would move towards the back of the theater so as not to be too close to the screen during the scene.
