Any help with a bright screen W240D-PVA
 

I've had a Hyundai W240D-PVA 24" screen for about 18 months and it's far to bright, even looking at the FM forum page you have to squint your eyes and opening Outlook or a word document is way to bright, if I use the PC for to long I get bad headaches which means since I've had the screen I've had almost a constant headaches, trouble is if I reduce the brightness or contrast, colours and blacks don't seem to display properly.

I've tried the NVIDIA Display Optimization Wizard and if I set it up how it's recommended any shade of dark gray to black shows as just black some slight differences in colour, especially reds have visible banding or lines between the shades. I noticed how different it was when I was looking at something on ebay that was black and had gray and dark gray colouring, on my screen it was just black but on my dads screen (a cheap verizon 22" LCD TV) the different shades were well defind and fully visible.

Any advice on software to help set up the screen properly or is it just a cack screen, my missus hates it and moans constantly about the brightness when she's using it but if I reduce the brightness black and colours are just pant's.

I've had three different Graphics cards since I've had the screen so it's not the VGA.

Ya it's very annoying. My brother bought a newer 22" with crystal bright and he even increased brightness where I have a cheaper and older and forced lower brightness hehe..

Havent you tried forcing lower brightness? Helps quite a big and even more in games where you can change it.

Personally headaches have just been the downside of larger monitors. It happened when I tried using a Samsung 27 inch LCD TV as a monitor and also with my 21.6" monitor.

It is a common problem that manufacturers increase the brightness to unbearable levels to make specs look bigger.


Reducing the brightness and increasing the contrast won't work?

You're right, messing with the brightness or contrast just has negative effects, I have to have it bright to get decent colour/black reproduction, probably don't help that it's only 2 foot away from me but I'm sure it's that causing my headaches as I went on holiday for a week and didn't have one, also spending 4 or 5 hours a day at the computer probably don't do me any good, guess i'm stuck with it for now

Mess about with the RGB settings, I had a similar problem with my Dell S2409W and lowering them equally to 95 each gives me a clear picture.
