Default New Feature length Red Dwarf to be shot at 4K res
http://www.reddwarf.co.uk/news/2009/02/13/red-through/

Red Dwarf re-united! High Def goodness! Bigger budget!

No Rob Grant? No live audience of laughter track?

I don't know what to think but I sure am excited.

It's the start of a journey that will conclude on the Easter weekend as Red Dwarf: Back to Earth crash-lands on Dave on April 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th. So it's not going to be on the BBC then?

Although I love every Red Dwarf episode in its own way (Series 3-6 are clearly best overall and 7 has some great moments as well) I'm already resigned to the fact that these new episodes won't be anywhere near as good. Though I'll still watch them, then download the HD versions and watch them again as I have no means of recieving HDTV and then buy them on DVD as I am a completist.

10 years is too long for a show to be dead and make a viable comeback in my opinion.

Strangely they'd been offered and had rejected the project multiple times. Then again the BBC are pretty crap these days, preferring reality shows and repeats over expensive sitcom productions.

I'm happy that Dave have used their funds accumulated from repeats to bring something new to the air, especially my favourite show of all time.

As for the poster saying 10 years is too long for a come back. I disagree, especially since their obviously increased age will be woven into the story. I own all the seasons and watch them ALOT so it doesn't seem like a massive gap to me.

My fave seasons were 1-3 but I can't stomach 7 {especially once Barry leaves}, it's garbage of the highest order when compared to shows co-created with Rob Grant, which is why I'm a little concerned but Craig Charles has apparently lauded the script.

I always thought 7 was a bit hopeless. Kochanski was a hopeless addition, and the whole attitude of the 7th series was a bit contrary to all previous. The 8th season, for me, saw a return for some of the original style, which was a good thing. I couldn't possibly disregard series 1 and 2 though, original Holly was great, and the simplicity kept things more focused on the characters and the back and forth "odd couple" behaviour of Rimmer and Lister. Classic. [thumbup]

Yeah, it seems a bit pointless to shoot it in HD when it's only going to shown on a SD channel......unless they're planning on releasing it on BD.

I do agree, but 7 did have some great moments, (basically all the episodes with Barrie in them - Tikka to Ride, Stoke me a Kipper & Blue, the other episodes, not quite so)

And yes I really enjoy series 1 & 2 and the series 8 episodes that focus on the main 5, as Lovett was a far better Holly - Once there was a bigger permanent cast, that's when it started to go downhill a little.

Maybe I'm a little biased as Kryten and (Male)Holly are my favourite characters overall.
