I don't think you can compare somewhere that gets a lot of snow to somewhere like the UK that hardly gets any. If you get it all the time you're going to be geared up for it. Can you imagine the furore if millions of pounds was spent on equipment that was just standing around doing nothing for 99% of the time?
The point is the whole world knows how Britain likes to make itself look retarded when it gets snow, no matter how little, add to this the fact that it takes over all the news, and it's absolutely ridiculous, unless you think watching people throwing snowballs at each other all the time is more important than some of the actual things happening around the world.

The news isn't about what's "important" it's about what people are going to be interested in. Like it or not people are going to be more interested in what's going on in this country rather than something that's happening in some far off land that doesn't affect them.

Which proves how stupid people are, and believe it or not there happens to be a lot more happening in Britain than a measly little bit of snow.

we just need more gritters and grit.

and better drivers. the last gritter truck i saw on Thursday had a car hit it then they both slid off the road.
...and understand that with snow tyres you'd actually have a fraction of the accidents happening.

Wait... before you say it doesn't justify the cost, let me point out one thing: if you use snow tyre during half of the year, it means you don't use your summer tyres during that time, hence doubling their lifespan (didn't think of that did you? ). Plus, snow tyres don't actually need snow to be useful. The rubber compound is softer, hence more grippy than summer tyres when the road is cold. There you go. Lesson over. Now go get snow tyres!

If they're softer won't they wear out faster?
