Default My AT&T dsl is SO slow... any ideas?
i am lucky if i can get 50k a sec when downloading, it takes forever for pages to load, i have had this setup for about 2 weeks, there is a sticker on the modem that says you have to leave the modem going for 10 days straight for it to reach its full speed... well its been more like 14 days...

that and websites that forever to load, even google takes a few seconds

Welcome to AT&T.
The 10 days does nothing and don't be surprised if you have trouble getting a connection at night.

The way AT&T explained it to me was the modem finds the route to the AT&T hub with the lowest latency.

Yep nothing out of the ordinary, we have line training with some ISPs in UK, not sure if its the same thing but your line speed is optimised over a length of time when you first join the ISP.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rate-Ad...ubscriber_Line

This is what UK dsl providers tend to adopt. They also advise 10 days.

What are you running at though? 50KB/s is roughly 768K down, maybe even 512KB/s I'm happy with my 7000. Much better then the 1.5 I had.

Wow, makes me glad i have my 10mb line from cox. Though Speed doesn't mean that much though, when it comes to loading web pages. Latency and web server speed's are the major factor in how fast a page will load.

err lol.

ADSL is the predominant technology used in Australia and I can tell you that's a load of BS. Your modem speaks to a DSLAM that should be no further than 3 miles from you. Your line should run directly to it. From there it would be sent by fibre to some AT&T central hub somewhere. Unless the backhaul of AT&T sucks ass I doubt that's the issue.

Can you get the following details from the modem?

Here is an example of mine.
....................................Download ... Upload
Connection Speed......... 23666 kbps 1021 kbps
Line Attenuation ........... 10.5 db........ 5.2 db
Noise Margin.................. 7.4 db .......12.8 db

This will help troubleshoot if you have any line problems.
