I currently work in corrections.... so yeah... I have a secure job.
I'm similar to you. I work for the probation office. And in the past month or two, we have actually been growing and needing more officers plus we have opened up a couple of new offices around the state.

Being a small business owner, job security for me all depends on how much I put into it, and learn to adapt to the current economy. It can be overwhelming at times, but it certainly has its benefits.

Pretty secure. With the level of the quality of my knowledge and work output, a lot of people ask for me specifically to get a job done properly and on time.

Good. My company's growing and our biggest muti-million dollar competitor just went out of business. Pay's decent, benefits are great and I put my resume online for the hell of it and received replies.

I was made redundant in February when my employer went bust, started working self employed but am now looking to change industries - although I've probably left it a bit late, I'm a mortgage adviser

Well unless there's a global EMP that fries all computers and the power is out permanently, my job in the computer industry is very secure right now.

A couple of years ago i changed career, i am now a Support Worker for adults with learning disabilities, these people will always need support to help them live an independent life and the government provides, so my job should be pretty much assured, unless they cut the funding and turf them all out on the streets.

Well I'm certainly not going to get laid off/sacked as I run my own business but demand has fallen somewhat for our main software products. The beauty of being a small business though in the realm of Internet solutions is that you can quickly shift resources to more profitable areas and I have no doubt I'll ride out the storm. There's always money to be made in a recession as well, you just have to be in good and flexible position, and have your wits about you!

Meh, my job security is decent

I kinda want to go self employed, but I don't have the business sense nor the startup capital. Location is bad too. Best I could do is e-tailer and dropship goods.

My boss said this is secure for at least another five years. The products and service we sell go with long term contracts (usually about 15 years) and none of them expires in less than five years. Now of course our customers could all go bankrupt at once, but that is doubtfull.

I think I would rather get laid off than own my own business only to see it go down the pan and once you file for bankruptcy that's pretty much you done for the rest of your life when trying to start a new one back up [shocked]

Not if you set it up correctly under limited liability by guarantee or share.

And when you aren't in an industry where you need to invest heavily, or get heavily indebted. We made money from day 1 and have minimal outgoings generally....
