We all know that if the beta isn't good the end product will not be good either (or worse)

What an idiot, you cannot possibly rate a pre-beta. Most likely a Mac fan with a Pentium 2 based system

I disagree:

Windows XP Beta

People jump the gun way too early. Windows, and I bet most OS's, go through some drastic changes near the end of development. A beta (especially PRE-beta ) should never be used to judge the final product.

Agreed - especially after I saw the beta stage of development for XP on the link you posted. [surrender] The final release of XP was miles better than the beta stage.

I decided to read a bit more of the article along with the other articles the composer has made. Way too much bias against Vista. [thumbdown]

I think it's a pathetic assumption to think Windows 7 will be like Vista. Even so, I've been using Vista since release and it's been a pleasure to use since.

Just idiots who honestly don't know what they are talking about. I've read about hardware compatibility problems with Windows 7 but I don't see why people should bash Microsoft over it. It's the hardware manufacturers fault for not making their hardware compatible with a new OS. Also it's only in Beta so the problems are likely to be fixed.

The only thing that's worth mentioning is the features they are toying with. However I wouldn't pass any judgment on how good or how bad it's implemented. At this stage it's usually bad.

Yes you can, M$ is **** poop and just made a fortune out of nothing. If either Mac or Linux had better game support M$ wouldnt stand a chance. [rolleyes]

About Win7, I agree, but might turn out better than Vista if DX11 is anything this time around.

Under limited testing so far myself I wholeheartedly agree.

Yes Windows 7 is faster, Yes Windows 7 uses less memory, Yes it's only a pre-beta, but by goodness it's awful in any other usable way IMHO..

I can't believe they would totally screw up the layout like they have done, it all looks incredibly Fisher-Price'd and confusing as to where everything is. No more handy 'Classic Layout' in control panel, standard folder layouts are garbage, Networking is even more of a mess, and you need what it feels like at least two or three more clicks to do something in Win7 compared to Vista...

Was hoping that it would be more streamlined and simpler like XP (or even just similar to Vista), alas it was not meant to be...

If i'm going to be honest, that's something I hope they fix in the final release.

At the same time though, I can't help but feel MS are focusing this new OS on touch screen capabilities. [thumbdown] Now seriously - what's wrong with the good old keyboard and mouse?

you have to wonder at microsoft. whilst I quite like vista64 now, I think they have taken the bloat as far as they should and now they should try and focus all of their attention on making their OS's faster.

i suppose the problem with that is that it would likely lead to job losses in MS itself. can you imagine the 'bloat' department voting for its closure?

maybe they need less committee like decision making. time for all important decisions to be taken by one man again? bill gates - come back!

i dont think vista64 is anywhere near as poorly received as ME was though. I think the biggest problem MS have is that they let XP be the standard for too long. If Vista had come out 2 years after XP then this would have prevented people becoming attached to it.

everyone is screaming about XFI compatibility,

they install and work fine if you take the time to set them up correctly..

even 5.1/7.1 works fine..
Same here. It took them ages to get the control panel out though... Not MS's fault.

Default Under The Hood, Windows 7 Is Vista's Twin
It seems as if Microsoft is having a tough time these days. Bring on Snow Leopard!

Bottom line: So far, Windows 7 looks, behaves, and performs almost exactly like Windows Vista. And it breaks all sorts of things that used to work just fine under Vista. In other words, Microsoft's follow-up to its most unpopular OS release since Windows Me threatens to deliver zero measurable performance benefits while introducing new and potentially crippling compatibility issues. http://www.pcworld.com/article/15362...stas_twin.html
