I just need to vent about my online sociology class.

This is sociology 215 : sociology of minority groups which we are supposed to learn about how each minority group came to together in America. Well, each freakin' chapter is roughly 60-90 pages long and we are supposed to read this within a week. I don't know about anyone else, but seriously who wants to read their textbook, and who wants to read that many pages in one sitting and then discuss it!
Most of the things in the chapters are facts like dates, times and numbers related to the population. However, there is quite a bit of that "dragged-out term paperness" in this book and it drives me INSANE!

Each test we take is over 4 of the chapters which we read and the test reviews the teacher gives us contains several key facts which should not be too hard to remember. Then you go to the school and take the test... and you realize during this test that probably 1/2 of the questions on the test are ones you reviewed for and the other is statistics and authors names in the book.

Thanks, I needed to get that off my chest. Now my question for any of you is how would you deal with it? I already emailed the teacher and told her it's ridiculous that test reviews have only half revelant material on them to remember. I suppose it's bothering me this badly because this is the first and only class that I have had a extremely difficult time with in the two years I have spent in college. My grade is very low and for me that embarrassing as hell when your normal GPA is usually no lower than a 3.0.

You're preaching to the choir bud. That's why I prefer real live classes, usually the teacher will just review the textbook readings and outline key points so you don't have to read it on your own. I usually just skip most of the reading work but it sounds like you really need it for this class. [no]

Yes, I prefer to be taught as opposed to teaching myself. Reading textbooks is totally lame and IMO completely unnecessary for university level courses. I hardly ever do the readings for my classes (all core science classes btw, not fluff) and I've maintained my 4.0 GPA.

The textbook should be a supplement, not a source. Although sociology can be somewhat more reading dependent, I think you're just getting shafted because it's an online course.

In my opinion, Sociology is the biggest bunch of liberal bullcrap taught in school.

I'm a firm believer in taking responsibility for ones own actions. The entire idea of classifying groups of people is not only offensive to me, it also ignores the idea of individualism and personal responsibility as a whole.

I feel your pain not because of the work required, but because of the nonsense you're required to study.
