Most presidential candidates do not get this sort of protection. Supreme court justices for example often give speeches without any screening of visitors, and plenty of crazy people want them dead. The only reason obama gets such strong protection with metal detectors and wanding is because he is black and threats have been made against him. No one is patting every single person down at Huckabee speeches or Mccain rallies.
