Default Ashley
What do you guys think of the whole "Ashley" thing?

http://www.crimelibrary.com/news/ori...treatment.html

To sum it up...Ashley is a little girl who has the motor skills and mental development of a 3 months old, she can't even lift her head....

ANYWAY, just read it!

Should the parents have done the surgery and all that, or should they just have let nature take it's course?

I really feel for the parents.

(PS. I love these new smileys Id!)

I did discuss this with my boyfriend and we're mixed on the situation.

We do agree that it MIGHT make Ashley's life easier but the moral situation here is the parents did it for themselves "Makes it easier for us to move her around."

I mean I can see them removing her appendix (she can't tell them she's in pain), but my boyfriend and I are very mixed on the fact that they also removed her uterus (basically sterilising her) and mammary glands.

Their reasoning is, "She won't have children so we removed it." And giving the girl hormones to keep her small as well.

Like I said, I'm very mixed. If it is to make her life easier, ok. If the parents did it to benefit themselves, I'm not sure at this point.

There (but for the grace of God) go I.

The only good thing about their situation is that it has not yet involved lawyers & the US courts.

I am lost with Zen on this one, that's why i wanted your opinions. I just keep seeing the poor little girl, she is going to live her whole life, WHOLE LIFE like this! What are gonna happen when her parents get old and die, who is going to be able to keep taking care of her?

Id you brought up a good point, should they put her to sleep? NOT like they did Terri, because Terri they let starve basically which i thought was so sick, but should they let her go?

UGH i don't know what i would do...

I had to re-read it again. Well you certainly can't put her to sleep. Would you put your child to sleep? I suppose if it was me I would have went over all the options of caring for a child I loved very much no matter what the condition and I would have done the same thing. If that meant doing away with what would be normal to make her life easier and the parents or caregivers lives easier then so be it. You all know what that time of the month does so why put a child in her condition through that. Since the article doesn't say what the life expectency is on that type of condition I would assume she would grow into a normal adult and live to a normal age. So if that is the case then I would have done what they did. She's a beautiful girl. Very sad to see that happen. I suppose they have made arrangements for her if she should outlive them.
