Authoritarianism seems to be the direction that the US is headed anyway. The cops are just leading the way. There is no assumption of innocence anymore. Particularly with traffic stops. If they say you did it, then you might as well mail in the fine because you are guilty unless you have some pretty strong evidence of innocence. All the "proof" the cop needs is his/her word.
A person is now not even allowed to cough during this type of legal harrasment anymore...in fact it seems that doing so will get you restrained and manhandled. Just another "isolated incident"? Yeah...right. |

Lord knows how you'd react if I started a thread like "Jew murders neighbour -- what the heck is wrong with Jews today?" This is a good point, I think the thread starter should please get out of everyone's face and stop talking immediately. |

...All the "proof" the cop needs is his/her word. Not so. There's even a website on how to get out of a traffic ticket. Truth is most people just admit they did something wrong and mail in the fine. I've been pulled over and I was guilty every time.
Actually, I take back the first sentence. I googled for the site and found all kinds of web sites on how to get out of tickets. |

All the "proof" the cop needs is his/her word. Not always, but often. Courts will usually accept the cop over the defendant in the absence of any other evidence. In this guys case (seatbelt) it will be his word against the cops. Unless he can cast doubt on the officer's observations, the defendant is screwed. |

Did anyone else hear comedian Gabriel Iglesias's bit on talking his way out of a speeding ticket? The best part was when the cop returned briefly to his cruiser and Gabriel slipped the theme from "Cops" into his CD. The cop was almost dancin' to the beat when he returned to Gabriel's car. I think Chris Norton's strategy is far more effective. ![]() |
