Hi all, got a copy of XP SP1a which is no good for my iMac. Need to create a XPSP2 disk in order for me to use this with BootCamp.
Problem is every guide I have come across so far has not worked. I have copied XP content to my fathers pc. Then updated that with SP2 (unpacking method then updating via CMD). But every time I try to use that new SP2 based disk it says NTDLR error! I checked the disk content and that very file is on the disk.... WTF so I can't get anywhere atm. I refuse to pay 50 quid for XP SP2 as I already own it essentially. Please point me in the direction of a guide that will result in a working Slipstream XPSP2. Not sure if this has any baring but I only have access to Nero 5 on the pc or Roxio Toast Titanium on my fathers G5. I can set all the options needed but Roxio can't run classic as its the OS X version and Nero 5 is pretty old... so it has whats needed but its really only laid out differently.... this is infuriating as all is ready to roll.... just need a working SP2 [help] |

boy - remember - SP 3 is going to be released before years end .. maybe just wait till then - and get an XP/SP3 disk. Otherwise - sounds more like the method you are using to burn the bootdisk and not the file content - but it's only my guess.
Edit - to tell you the truth - I never trust boot disks made by roxio or even nero for that matter- only ever had "dependable" luck making boot disks by creating an ISO image (I use WinISO 5.3) and burning it using Active ISO burner: (freeware) http://www.ntfs.com/iso-burning.htm |

You must be doing something wrong cause I've done it problem free many times. I'll try to find the guide i use (its the EXACT same process as slipstreaming SP1 into a release version of xp)
http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm In order to make a slipstreamed CD bootable it's necessary to add an image file during the burning process. You need to extract the file Microsoft Corporation.img and save it to a folder. For my testing I just created a XP-BootImage folder on the C:\ drive. There are a number of ways to perform the extraction but the easiest is to use ISO Buster. is crucial |

Just made 2 copies of XPpro-sp2 from an XP1 disk using Kefka 900's link -
worked fine - Only thing I'd mention it doesn't say - when you extract the ISO from the origional XP1 cd using the reccomended "ISO Buster"- make sure the bottom choice from the right-click menu is selected - (Extract Raw Data (2352 Bytes/Block) - dont extract to user data. - Had to install roxio & ISO Buster to do it - but I have 2 tested & working xp disks here w/sp2. - Kudos Kefka |

As most have said, use nLite, works brilliantly, even my sister managed to get it all up and running!
Just out of curiosity have you looked in Parallels? It offers some great features and allows you to run applications within the OSX environment. Not so good for gaming, but great if you want the odd Windows app without having to boot into Windows! |

Cheers guys, been getting very pissed off with this.... I would have thought there would be one standard way to do it. But all the sites I have tried have different unpacking methods and oddly have
cmpnents folder I do not have this.. my latest disk is named after the OEM naming scheme but it says the sodding NTDLR.dll is missing. My only guess is that the SP2 update didn't do a good job and causes and otherwise normal SP2 disk to malfunction. That file is on the disk and I used the .IMG file to create the session [thumbdown] BLOODY hate this. So far 5 hours of F'ing around just to get windows written and useable..... yawn |

Used NLite and it worked a dream, installed XPSP2 on the iMac and away I went. Then hit a HUGE wall.
Turns out support via Bootcamp for the new iMacs is non existent. Can't even install a large application!!!! Tried to install Bioshock and after it completes it downloads the latest patch, fair enough... then nigh on completion it black screens! Did the same when I unpacked MOH:Airborne demo... just a black screen. So I can only boot into XP to look at it and surf the web [rofl], not sure how latest Parallels plays with the Alu iMacs but I am a little upset to say the least after nearly a day of graft to finally try and enjoy the wonders of Bioshock to be presented with a black screen. I mean I would have been able to accept after installation and trying it out a little bit of graphic corruption (due to immature drivers) but not even completing the install is..... *shakes head* lost for words really. Tempted to phone AppleCare tomorrow and ask what they would suggest I do! |

All sorted, turned out it was my home made slipstream disk that was causing random stuff to occur....
Shame I wasn't notified by XP that something was not right... just crashing on a big install. Anyway having to buy XPSP2 now but after trying my mothers copy and running Bioshock I love it. Runs smooth as silk in DX9 mode with full detail settings at 1280-768!!!! I am even more happy with my iMac now that I have seen it sail through a brand new game via Bootcamp [thumbup] |
