2 reasons:
You have your iPod set to auto-update
You're using an iPod

Funny, I've used iTunes on many different computers with my iPod and never once had it delete all my stuff. You probably have it set to auto update when a playlist is changed, then if you removed that playlist, iTunes thinks you want to remove the stuff from your iPod too so you don't have to do it again by hand. I think this is user error and not a problem with iTunes.

Overpriced iPods and DRM-protected music never appealed to me. Sorry about your music loss, though. That would be very painful for me.

Have a Creative because I was told that it was way better, when specs showed that they are the same. I didn't really see how it could be much better other then the interface, and I thoroughly enjoy the iPod much much better.
Plus the price isn't that much of a difference to make it worth it.

I don't like iTunes, and I don't care much for Creative's software. It is all down to it being in your hands, and I like the iPod much better. Though when it comes to the mini part of things, I like Creative's offer much better.
