Isn't it amazing how corporations choses to spend their money sometimes? It's fine to have all that easily transportable and expensive product just sitting there, but they skimp on security and wonder why theft can be a major problem. All to save a a little money on security? Madness.

Working hours and breaks
 

i am a security guard and working on a site. Thing is theres only me and im sure by law there should be 2 on a site.

anyway i work 12 hours a day and 60 hours a week, im wondering what breaks im entitled to, because at the minute i havent had a break at work and ive been there a monthe.

Breaks should be 30mins min every 4hrs but most firms / employees have to be flexible because certain working conditions need a flexible approach...IE Airport workers (me) flights check in constant from 3am till midnight so taking breaks isn't that easy [thumbdown] but i always get around it http://discussworldissues.com/forums...lies/cool1.gif

Aren't security guards on break most of the day?

if u class throwing gypos off site, having 6 inche nails thrown at u all day by there kids and being threatend to be tied up and hit on the head with a hammer as being on a break then yeh.

I was a security guard for Pinkerton for a few years. Security guards don't get breaks, and aren't entitled to by law, either. I believe the phrase was something along the lines of "A 30 minute break every six hours or a 1 hours break every eight hours unless the nature of the work provides ample time for resting and eating during normal activity."

That wouldn't go down very well with the security guards @ the airport, they'd be out on strike before you know it. Mind you 95% are bone idle @ the airport anyway so wouldn't make much difference if they did.

Its pretty bad yeh. Whats the law say about ther ebeing 2 guards? im sure there is suppsoed ot be 2 guards on site at a time.

I worked at a truck yard where one truck trailer may have $50 Million in Pharmaceuticals onboard, and 50-60 trucks in the yard, and I was the only person on the premises (armed).

That was in North Carolina, and state laws usually dictate such rules. In NC two guards weren't necessary.

By law YES, but if its anything like airport rules then things like that DONT apply, they should but due to "blah blah blah working conditions & operational procedures etc etc etc the above rule doesnt apply" thats all i seem to get if i ask to many questions or try to make waves.

Mind you in the last year things have started to change as our new team leader is quite up on Health and Safety and can deal with the bosses quite well, i on the other hand tend to be as sarcastic as possible and swear alot [rofl]
