Default Useful things Poly has taught you
I'm a much better typist then I was before I started posting here...

My grammar is betterer, though I still confuse "should of" with "should have".

Doctors steal your money. If you really want good treatment and advice just ask the OT.

While it sounds all posh and awesome, being a porn star actually sucks.

"Unfair Tax" is a laughable term.

'Poly has taught me where to find Eventis...
'Poly has taught me humility when i thought i was unbreakable...
'Poly has taught me to cope with my problems instead of letting them control me...
'Poly has taught me that an internet forum can be a great source of strength that i can draw upon to carry me through the worst of days...
'Poly has taught me that we are all human and vulnerable and we all make mistakes, not just me...
and lastly 'Poly has taught me what it means to value friendship...

i will tell you all, with a tear in my eye, thank you from the bottom of my black and broken heart, Apolyton, for all you have done for and given me

always yours,
ian (my real name)

WTF is Eventis? /LS

As a serious answer, I appreciate the international atmo at Poly. German-only forums are nice for a while, but here I get a much broader perspective on many things.

Of course the same could go for other internat. fora too. But I love my Poly

For me, it increased my ambition to be as intellectually honest as possible. Definitely

I've learned more about various international issues and politics.
I've learned about the origins of Hindu Civilization (tm)
I've learned to take a more respectful approach to theist/atheist debating. One might call it humility, perhaps
I've learned some things about trolls.
I've learned a little about CivII scenario creation, and a lot about CivIII and IV.
I've been made aware of the threat of evil, evil Finland.

Dunno if it counts as "learning" but my typing skills, which were already pretty good, have improved.

Poly, in an odd sort of way, introduced me to online collaboration (with the List), which is a big part of how I now make my living.

I've learned that you can sweat blood over writing original comedy and trying to come up with genuinely new ways to amuse people- but what you bastards swear is the funniest thing ever is any old crap that namechecks you.

1. Improved my written English a lot. This is all practice I get.

2. International atmosphere. It's not complete yet though. I'd like to see a Japanese fellow here, an Iranian, etc...

3. Information/news filter. The added bonus is that unlike normal ranking sites (digg, reddit), here I also get to read comments from people who I "know", which helps me make sense of issues. For example latest Estonian statue incident.

4. There have been quite some entertaining threads in the past.
