What I mean is they tend to give good ratings or reviews to average music.

Same goes for other genre specific mags like rap reviews.com.

I also have ratings or give the album a score, it demeans the music.
Average in your opinion. What is average music?

You say ratings or giving a score demeans the music, yet you can quite happily give a negative opinion. Isn't that demeaning?

No it's not demeaning. Even if you slag it hard it's still critical of the music itself. Giving a score is superficial and gives no reason and very boring review.

I just think that they put in a score because most people are stupid and can't be bothered to read an article.

This is by far their worst album since that Jay Z collision crap. I'm not sure what happened to them over the last 4 years, but they went downhill fast. This was probably my most anticipated CD of the decade (I'm not kidding) and I was let down like crazy. The style is horribly different, infact it's so different, with the exception of their single "What I've Done," that this should have been from one of those weird spin-off bands that the lead singer and guitarist usually do, you know like Audioslave or something. It's just plain stupid trying to call this a "growing up" of the artist, more like growing out of the fan base they created. I hope their next album is even decent, because this one is pure crap.

the words of someone who hasn't listened enough. seriously, its good. the problem i have with it is the lack of tracks that they put on the album and that some of the tracks could be on mike and chesters side projects (fort minor and dead by sunrise i think).

It's about the least interesting, middle of the road, bollocks album ever; listening to it more would only compound the fact that it's a pathetic attempt at capturing the zeitgeist. Linkin Park are musicians in the same way that a kid with a triangle trying to keep up with Smoke on the Water is. Completely generic chorus-verse-chorus multi million dollar 8th note shite.

IMFHO.

So, I'm listening to the album for the first time right now.

So far, Given Up is ok. I like it, but it's not something I think I'll find myself humming as I'm walking down the road. I really like Leave Out All The Rest, really mellow and catchy song. Out of the four I've heard, best so far.

Bleed it Out is pretty dull... not really doing anything for me.

I'm really liking Shadow of the Day. Totally a movie credit's song. Especially at 1:30. That's when they start rolling. Of course, at 2:20, they could also use that as a pull away OH shot into the sky.

What I've Done is the one I heard on the radio...it seems to be the most Linkin Park-y. Compared to Bleed it Out and Given Up, I like it a lot.

Just finished Hands Held High... pretty much a typical Fight The Man song... which is all good and fine. Song's not too bad either. Personally, as a wakeup-and-change-the-world song, I think Nickleback did it better with If Everyone Cared... much more positive message.

No More Sorrow's not too shabby. I like it, more like their older stuff in a way. Guitar riffs seem kinda heavier than they used to have. Kind of repetative.

Valentine's Day is nice. I like the mellow stuff on this cd so far. When it kicks in around 2:20 it gets pretty cool. It kinda reminds me of My December at the beginning.

Not diggin' In Between. Just kind of misses that spark that would make me like it... I think it's the vocals. Moving on...

In Pieces seems ok, but when he screams he sounds like a 10 year old skater kid who didn't get a cookie. Huh, around 1:25 I expected the song to really start kickin', then it started that honking thing... kinda lost me. 2:36's guitar solo's kinda weak, which is sad, since LP has had some great solos in the past.

The Little Things Give You Away, with LP's newest lead vocalist, Annie Lennox... song's ok, gets a lot better near the end IMHO.

All in all, a decent album. I like about half or more of the songs, so I can't complain.

albums number 1 in the uk album charts so at least its sold well. probably riding on a lot of success from previous albums atm though.

The more I listen to Shadow of the Day the more I like it. It's a really cool song. They don't do a lot of uplifting stuff like that often, but when they do, it's good.

I'll definately give In Pieces a few more listens. Songs usually grow on me.

im with you on the slow stuff. i like it too. leave out all the rest and valentines day are great tracks. i also agree that bleed it outs not really doing it for me either. its gotta kinda nice live feel to it, but i just dont really like the chorus.

have you seen the AOL sessions? probably on youtube somewhere. very good live versions of 3 of the tracks. given up was awesome.

You Sir haven't heard the album. Because otherwise you would know that No More Sorrow, Given Up and Bleed It Out are close to original sound (take out the "electronic" part out that made it Nu-Metal)...

You're right, they sound pretty close. For some reason, to me, it's just missing that little spark that made their old stuff great.

Still a fun album though.

True.

But after watching few live videos I saw that Han barely does anything when they play new songs... It's the "electronic" bit that's missing, there's none of it... And he barely scratches at all in this album.

It's okay by me that they have changed but it shouldn't have been so dramatic.

Couldn't agree more, its such a letdown words cannot describe, there are some mediocre tracks, but in comparison to what lp used to produce its utter crap. Yes I have listened to the album a few times, shadow of the day is the only track that grew on me at all, but it's still so generic and has nothing of what made lp so likeable.[no]

I just bought it and so far I am unimpressed. I'll keep listening to it to see if anything grows on me. I like "bleed it out" but only the first half of the song when mikes singing. But it seems to be a song that will get old quick.

Now I bought the new Ozzy yesterday as well. And I gotta say, so far I really like Ozzy's new album Black Rain.

They have metal riffs, hip hop dynamics and emo lyrics.
