Default This Picture Cost Me Two Jobs
I really didn't think it was a deal-breaker if a recruiter saw it. Hindsight is 20-20. [xmassad]

(And yes, I was sober in the picture)

Hmm. Now's the time to take that one down, Deej. At least until you're hired.

Well, that sucks. I used to work for the government pension service AND the benefits agency here in the UK and had some worse pics like that on my sites (and put the URLs on the C.V by accident and with pics such as my p***s in a stone lion war memorials mouth) and helped promote explicit and dodgy material at the time and they never batted an eyelid I didn't know employers could be that an*lly retentive. Good luck for the future though

Two steps ahead of you. The thing is, I knew recruiters check out Facebook and MySpace to get a better idea of the people they're looking to hire. I knew it, and I didn't think there was anything wrong with the pic. Is it offensive? I didn't think so. Is it goofy? Absolutely, and that was the point! It's gonna be hard to get over this for a while, especially since I've been trying so hard to get a job. [xmassad]

It looks like you have downs syndrome.
Maybe I do? [xmaslaugh] (No, not really)

Well, that's the way I look at it - goofy. Seems like the ones in charge of hiring must be in need of a stick-in-the-ass removal.

But I'm a bit confused - so these guys actually told you that they looked at your myspace page, and that this picture was the reason they weren't hiring you?

Nah, it was a Professor who told me this. One of best professors I've ever had (I think I told you 'bout him, the Mexico story one) has been instrumental in giving me the best of his advice. He wrote me an e-mail last night that simply said "Call me. It's important." I was hoping for good news, but I figured it wasn't. I talked to him this morning and he was the one that broke the news. He is listed on my references, too, so in a way I showed him in a bad light, too. BTW he told me "two" on the phone, but then when I wrote the Professor deeply apologizing he replied with it definitely was a deal-breaker for "one."

Oh, well. We live and we learn.

And fair enough. Someone who doesn't exactly know me is free to make that assumption. It's wrong, but I have no control over that.

For the record I just don't really care for having my picture taken, so at the last second I make some goofy face and call it a night. [xmaslaugh] And as I said before, I was completely sober, too.

What was your professor's issue with it? That it made you look stoned?

Bad for you you don't live in germany.

According to the new Equalisation law people must not be discriminated for literally anything.

They may not even ask for a picture on your CV let alone turn you down because of your looks.

First off, five months of sobriety and still kickin' (you know what I'm talkin' about, Frekld). Second, probably. Third, apparently a recruiter got in touch with him and said "no dice on this one."

Man... That is absolutely ridiculous. I honestly had absolutely no idea that recruiters looked at Myspace and Facebook, that is downright creepy. I mean, it makes sense but still creeps the hell out of me. Is your name DJ Lushious on myspace? That could have given them the wrong idea.

Sorry to hear that news man... [thumbdown]

How is this right? Surely the recruiter shold be talking to you, not spilling the beans to some third party? Even if the professor is listed as a reference, its no reason to start discussing potentially confidential information...
