Well I'd opt for the Pioneer (though I havent read the specs).

I dont like Clarion headunits.

.... Though personally I'd pick neither and get an Alpine.

as i'm getting older i'm readdressing my personal balance when it comes to form vs. function and therefore, between the two, i would opt for the clarion because no doubt either will sound more than fine (especially since if you are spending that much on a head unit i assume you are using external amplification anyway?)

Becker are expensive and to be honest dont really do much! They are just a fancy name that ferrari etc use. There are a hell of alot a better headunits for the money, and they look ****. They look like they were made in the 80s

retro is nice, but you don't have to agree.

They do have a great sound in them and may be expensive, but you do get something nice for the money with good sound quality.

It was a suggestion on my end together with Alpine that 3dfx has recommended to you, which has all the bells and whistles on them you like.

(PS I myself have Alpine as well)

I'd go for the Clarion,Pioneer isn't usually that great in my expereince..and Clarion has great clear sound...Better than alpine..I should know. Alpine HU's don't survive deer jumping on your hood either...pofs!

CD3100

Or CD5100 if you want to spend a bit more. I have one of the older models. - CD4000. One of the best decks I've ever owned.

Before I can anwer the question of which would be best for you, I need to know what you ultimately plan to do with your system.

If you're just going to use the head unit's built in amp to power 2 or 4 speakers and that's the extent of your system, then either unit will do fine, pick whichever one has the features you like best.

Now if you're going to have a more elaborate system at some point, with a subwoofer system, and component mids & highs powered by their own separate amp, then I'd get the Pioneer. It has 3 sets of 4v outputs and a built-in crossover for setting the frequencies of each output, so future expansion would be very easy. In contrast, the Clarion unit only has 2 preamp outputs, which would be inferior compared to the Pioneer in this scenario.

Edit: Based on several posts in this thread, it would appear most people want the nicest face and either aren't aware of what's behind it, or don't care.

Purely because it matches the dash in my car.

and clarion is a good make and for my audio needs the standard head unit that was in my car was more than ample.

I say the clarion beause it looks damn cool, specs are good, even has bluetooth and sd card slot, I found it for £149 over here which is an awesome price.

Plus I want someone else to get it and tell me how it is 'cause I want one lol

How about Panasonic? [thumbup]

Out of the two choice, I'd go with the Pioneer, simply for more outputs.

I've read lots of good things about Clarion before and it looks awesome, so I'd maybe go with the Clarion. But, I do not know the capabilities of each, so I can't really say which one I'd go for.
