So they are suing because they don't believe Vista Basic is Vista. Idiots. Just cause there $400 walmart computers cant run the premium version.

It really isn't Vista, do you see anyone from FM even considering basic? Does it make sense to have something LESS than Vista Home Premium? 2 versions would have been more than enough.

I think Apple needs to make a quick marketing strike because when you buy even a cheap mac, you get the real OSX.

I kind of have to agree. People see all these "great" things that vista can via commercials and marketing campaigns and then if they were to buy vista basic it would be nothing like what they saw in the ads. I can understand where microsoft was trying to come from offering several different versions but it still seems a bit shady to me to only market the super deluxe version and then sell a mega stripped down version without stating clearly what you aren't getting.

I've already sold a few computers with vista basic on it and they are perfectly happy. Vista Basic has to exist for the crappy computers people buy at walmart (and therefore cant handle premium)

And Vista Basic is vista without some features. Hence the word basic. I would care if i had basic.

The thing about VISTA basic is that it lacks most of the features that make VISTA interesting. If you want an OS for a slower computer, get XP Home. Because of the restrictions put on VISTA Basic, XP Home can actually do many things that Basic can't. Plus you don't have to put up with the incompatibilities that VISTA currently has if you get XP (as hardware manufacturers struggle to come to grips with the changes made in VISTA over XP).

I agree with you that all macs come with the real OSX and thats a good thing, but keep in mind there isnt really a cheap mac, the mini starts @ 600$ (with no screen, and for that much you can get a pc at a retail store with home premium, and the mac book/imac start at 1k....)

That may be true, but when you consider the fact that if you wanted all the features you'd have to upgrade the OS and that would the consumer more, not to mention the fact that you would also have to upgrade some hardware.

I don't see what the problem is. Vista != Aero, it's simply the new OS lineup from MS. That's a bit like Suing ATi because their Radeon 9000 lacks features that the Radeon 9700 has?

Rofls I guess some idiots dont know the difference between Vista "Capable" and Vista "Ready" because Capable states that your PC can run Vista's core features/components only, Vista "Ready" states you can pretty much run all of Vista's goodies.

What are some of the many things can XP Home can do that Vista Basic Cant?

I found something funny recently with Vista and motherboard labels. Since late last year, our motherboards (same model) that we use for workstations all stated "Vista Capable" on the box. Within the last 2 weeks, we have been getting ones that say "Vista BASIC capable". Crappy onboard video FTW!

Vista basic is perfect for people who browse the web and read e-mail. For a cheap price you get an OS that serves the basic user's needs. Its great for a super cheap walmart PC where someone wants to read e-mail, surf the web, print crap, and look at porn. Just because a PC is vista capable doesn't mean that you should expect it to be able to display your GUI as a 3d hologram in the middle of your living room while brewing you a pot of coffee. My system meets the minimum and/or recommended requirements for *insert game here* so I'll complain that while I can run the game I can't put it on uber insane graphics mode with 40xFSAA. Many games have the requirements set at a level that requires you to reduce the graphics to the point where it looks absolutely nothing like any trailer/screenshot.

Those PCs are neither as sexy nor as small as the Mac Mini.

And great job calling at least 50% of the people here idiots, because I doubt that many know the difference between capable and ready. Plus, Vista = Aero, it's what all the advertising is talking about.

Vista is NOT Aero, Vista is not just a pretty UI. Its a whole new operating system. Just because you see a commercial of a game at max settings doesn't mean it will look that way at your computer. Going to sue game companies cause you meet the minimum system requirements but it does look at good?

Wouldn't the company manufacturing the PC be the one misleading? My laptop with a Yonah Celeron 1.73Ghz and integrated Intel graphics says "Windows Vista Capable" on the sticker. I have see Core 2 Duo laptops with Geforce 7600 graphics using the same sticker. If it runs Vista, it runs Vista. Maybe the companies producing the computers should be held liable if anyone is. I can't go buy a Hyundai Accent and think that just because the brand name is the same, I will be getting all of the features an Azera has.

For the average joe it is and that is what matters for the law, infact even for the "tired of XP" crowd it is Vista.

You're right, Vista is a pretty looking O/S riddled with bugs, incompatibility issues, annoying nag screens (are you super super double trip sure you want to do that? x10000), DRM, resource hogging bloatware.

Before the name calling starts, yes I have used Vista ^ represents what I think.

Long Live XP PRO!
