Default The Last of The Mohicans
I watched this movie for the first time recently, and it now ranks up there in my top ten. Absolutely amazing.

It gives a fascinating veiw into the world of early-colonial America, an era which is seldom touched on. The cinematogrophy and soundtrack alone make it worth watching, and in the DVD I have there is indeed a version with just the video and music. The acting is all top-class, but the star has to Wes Studi, playing the Huron twisted by his hate for the British. The raw emotion the whole film is what makes it for me though, culminating in a breathtaking climax with the mesmeric music building it up perfectly.

The only thing I find dissapointing is how short and seemingly chopped up it is. I've read this is due to the evil bastards at Fox demanding the Director cut an HOUR from the film. You can kind of tell, and I hope someday the original is released.

So, any other fans here? Are there any other good movies with a similar setting?

Awesome film, and I suggest braveheart. A film I also watched recently that really surprised me was The World's Fastest Indian.

You said it.

The musical score is just excellent [thumbup]
Always the first thing I remember when this film is mentioned.

Would love to see a full length directors cut.

I've seen Braveheart quite a few times, it's very good but I have a few issues with it. Gibson portrays all the English as evil or weak (like in most of his films hehe), and glorifies the Scottish way too much. He completely warps history to pull this off to an even greater extent too, despite the narrator in the opening claiming it's exactly what happened.

One of the things I like about mohicans is the neutrality all peoples are treated with. There were both good and ******* British, French and Indian characters. Some even changing through the course of the film, like the up-tight British officer who sacrifices himself.

1 and 2 are brilliant, haven't seen 3 or 4. You forgot the greatest of all westerns though, those directed by Sergio Leone! Dollars trilogy and Once Upon a Time inthe West.

It is a masterpiece, but painful to watch. Very dark, wet, and depressing. Which is why I prefer to think of Outlaw Josey Wales as Clints crowning glory as a western Director.

High Plains Drifter is pretty good, but Pale Rider sucks ass imo.
