I watched this movie for the first time recently, and it now ranks up there in my top ten. Absolutely amazing.
It gives a fascinating veiw into the world of early-colonial America, an era which is seldom touched on. The cinematogrophy and soundtrack alone make it worth watching, and in the DVD I have there is indeed a version with just the video and music. The acting is all top-class, but the star has to Wes Studi, playing the Huron twisted by his hate for the British. The raw emotion the whole film is what makes it for me though, culminating in a breathtaking climax with the mesmeric music building it up perfectly. The only thing I find dissapointing is how short and seemingly chopped up it is. I've read this is due to the evil bastards at Fox demanding the Director cut an HOUR from the film. You can kind of tell, and I hope someday the original is released. So, any other fans here? Are there any other good movies with a similar setting? |

Awesome film, and I suggest braveheart. A film I also watched recently that really surprised me was The World's Fastest Indian. One of the things I like about mohicans is the neutrality all peoples are treated with. There were both good and ******* British, French and Indian characters. Some even changing through the course of the film, like the up-tight British officer who sacrifices himself. |

1 and 2 are brilliant, haven't seen 3 or 4. You forgot the greatest of all westerns though, those directed by Sergio Leone! Dollars trilogy and Once Upon a Time inthe West. |

true, good call but another bad omition is Unforgiven, that right there is a must see film for western buffs Clint is hella bad in that one High Plains Drifter is pretty good, but Pale Rider sucks ass imo. |
