Default You have 5 seconds to Comply...4....3......2...
Samsung creates $200,000 automated robots with 5.5mm machine guns to be used to defend the south/north korean border.

Looks like ED-209 is one more step to becoming reality.

http://www.newlaunches.com/archives/...costs_200k.php

comments on that page, make interesting reading too.

Apparently the robot sentry can track targets out to 500m, engage multiple targets at night or in the day, and get perfect headshots.

Won't take long before they equip something like that with serious firepower, like some 30mm chaingun, then people on the border of korea and other volatile places better keep their heads down out to a mile or so.

Couple of years into the future and we'll have the same thing on one of those mini tank tracked things like the "moute" in stargate, stick it on a pre-determined route and it'll do patrols.

Hope they release a mini version so I can keep the kids and cats off my front garden, be funny if it fired paintballs but real bullets would be fine! [rofl]

EDIT:
According to this website,
http://www.computing.co.uk/vnunet/ne...s-robot-sentry

The robot sentry can track targets upto 2.5 miles in day time and half that at night and then depending on the weapon, I assume, engage those targets...bloody hell!

I donīt like the idea of fully automated, robotic killing machines,..
These things should be illegal if you ask me.

I don't think they are even close to having those yet.

Fully automatic from what I've read, with voice recognition too, so"friendlies" can get near it, presumely to re-arm it or do maintenance.

Here's another pic.

As for the tank tracks , it looks like I was on the right track (groan).

Apparently korea are gonna order 1000 of these stationary ones to protect the borders, air fields and other key areas.

Definately one step closer to skylink!

Lets hope they don't become "self aware", they'll start wanting holidays, wages and days off! [rofl]

so it is an automated gun platform.
- can it reload?
- will the gun jam?
- will it shoot civilian or friendly? how good is it at reconigising it's own troop? [surrender]
- will a little girl be able to reprogram it with her notebook?

i get a feeling that the nexgen korea army will consist of starcraft players commanding 100s of robot... [help]

2096, by which time they wil be using bio neural circuitry in those things which are impervious to EMP attacks.

I predict cardboard cutout soldiers becoming a best seller in NK [rofl]

I doubt that thing could tell the difference. It might sound good in principle, but there will be a multitude of ways to fool/trick it.

The wars of the future will not be fought on the battlefield or at sea. They will be fought in space, or possibly on top of a very tall mountain. In either case, most of the actual fighting will be done by small robots. And as you go forth today remember always your duty is clear: To build and maintain those robots.

Looking about I found some other related links about korea's intended future robot research and development, makes scary reading!

http://www.computing.co.uk/vnunet/ne...-police-robots

check out the links on the left hand side for related stories.

makes interesting reading.

And as for those EMP grenades, in one of the comments on that first link, they already mentioned the possibility of using Sony laptop batteries for this exact usage. [rofl]

I'd like to see you get close enough though.

In my experience though, a high power laser, and wicked lasers sell ones of upto 400Mw in power (120 mile range at night), can cause shed loads of damage to virtually any camera, especially low light ones, shine one of those into a camera lens and the whole thing is blinded and might never recover from such an intense light.

I may or may not have tried this, with one of my lasers! which is a piddly little 5mw.

It has a sophisticated pattern recognition which can detect the difference between humans and trees So if you dressed up as a tree you'd be ok? or would it think that a moving tree was alittle to much and pwn your ass

lol...funniest comment I've read so far on other links was definately...

"Brings a whole new meaning to Blue screen of death".

others have been along the lines of "I hope its not running windows 98".

Or "so this is what microsoft have got planned for Vista".

[rofl]

It just had to happen sooner or later.

Most people just seem to be upset that its gonna be lifeless robots that are gonna be the ones killing you in the future, And that meeting your death by robot instead of a man, just makes it so much worse, How can getting killed be made any worse whether its by a robot or another human, your still dead for godsakes!

EDIT: more funny comments I've found...

Considering they can't even make phones that ring and vibrate at the same time, I don't think we should trust them to make terminators.

Ironically, Samsung's slogan is "Everyone's invited"

...to be shot on sight, I guess.

And here is someone using a "wicked laser" against a video camera.

http://www.wickedlasers.com/videos/VIDEO_004.wmv

And with regards to the video someone posted...

like the Samsung branding right at the end... although there was a spelling error, clearly it should read:

SAMSUNG
FORTHEWIN

Yep! they got that right.
I should think a Ģ100 laser would be enough to defeat the camera's on that $200K robot and leave enough time to get close enough to disable it, it might even destroy the sensitive optics, given enough power.

Definitely a slow beginnig of a new era of warfare. I immediately start thinking about some hollywood movies I've seen throughout the years. Even though they are avery much dramtized this is still a little scary methinks.

I agree, it is scary. The fact that it does look a lot like ED-209 doesn't help since it starts to blur the reality/fiction boundry. This could be the first step on a long dark path that will take us somewhere we do not want to go.

Or maybe I am being a bit too dramatic and watch way too much Sci-Fi.[rofl]
