I know what a sustainer does, the OP stated that it had some harmonics type switch which is what I was referring to.
My fault. The harmonic mode on the sustainer simply allows the note to fade into a harmonic. Allowing for some really cool techniques. It's hard to explain but what you can do to get an idea is to head to fernandesguitars.com check out their products -> sustainer -> hear and see-> artist demonstration -> Steve Hunter -> clip #1.

I know KSE dont use these guitars now but I was reading an interview a long time ago and I seem to remember it being stated in there, but I could be wrong.
As long as I've known about KSE they've always used Caparison guitars. But that doesn't mean they couldn't have a Fernandes Revo sitting around

Here's some of my stuff. The black one (B.C. Rich Beast) is for practice and on stage and the blue one (Yamaha Pacifica 921) is for home and writing.

I really like the sound of Gibson guitars, but I hate their looks. Would be cool if they built guitars with the general strat desegn.

How can you hate the SG and Les Pauls? [shocked]

I personally don't like the strat design, too boring IMHO

hmm, [no]

Still, if it plays and sounds like i want i don't really care, so much for reselling value though.

I thought the neck pickup would suck since it houses the sustainer circuitry but I tried messing with my amp this morning to get a nice bluesy tone and found it to be very nice. I don't really have words to describe the sound since english isnt my language, but it's very good.

Btw my old Kramer looks JUST like your strat except mine is neon green.

Sweet axe mate, where did you order it from?

A lot of Gibsons these days are very hit and miss these days, even those from the same "batch". One will be awesome, another will be a lemon. From what I have been reading and have heard it seems to be mostly SGs and Les Paul standards/studios that suffer. Though I don't think there is a model excluded from their Average quality control. Take it to a shop to get it properly set up once it arrives and if it feels wrong after that maybe consider sending it back. It won't be the model, but that specific guitar that is the problem.

I was actually looking at picking up an SG or a Les Paul before Xmas and asked around. The overwhelming response was:

It's true though, that quality control with Gibson is hit-or-miss, no matter the model. Some are amazing and some are extremely average, and this disparity exists even within the guitars that came out of the same line the same year. I have tried a couple. Low-end Gibsons like the Studio (or any Gibson in general, really) are hit and miss, definately buy the exact one you tried out, if you like it. Not-so-low-ends like the SG Standard aren't as bad in quality control, but there are still some lemons. Test a bunch out before you buy, and you'll have a great guitar for the money.

I'm still playing the Ibanez's w/ the TSL if anyone gives a ****. [dots]

We do give a ****. After all, you are using a tube amp. Hmm, is that phone part of your signal chain too?

You can get some funky effects with a dial tone.

If I remember right you also use a Marshall DSL/TSL mate? How do you find them for "interference"? I recently bought a "Rocktron DC OnTap Universal Stomp Box Power Supply". Its great as it comes with a million add ons and powers a ton of pedals. However it seems to add a sort of semi-faint buzz/electrical squeel, even with my NS-2 Dialed all the way up. I've been using it solely on my tuner as it mutes the signal when in use. But if I use it on an active pedal, it gives me said interference. I use my NS-2 as a power supply on my other pedals right now.

I know you are a bit of an amp guru so any advice would be appreciated. Don't suppose new/different tubes would help or something? When I first got the amp it was very quiet when powered/ heated up, but now it is a bit noisey, compared to my old AVT anyway. I can take a sound clip to give you an idea if that'd help.

Cheers mate.

Yeah i've heard a lot of bad news about gibson's quality control too. The way I see it though, it's definitely the guitar I want, if i have to go through a bit of bother to get it perfect it's still better than settling for something i don't really want.

I will def. take it to my local guitar shop to get it very thoroughly checked out, though.

I ordered it from Reidys.com by the way. Was recommended to me by a mate who works in a guitar shop.

Ive heard that this is a common side effect of some power supplies.

Will do [thumbup]

Yeah, i couldn't find it anywhere, I had to bite the bullet really and i'm prepared to keep sending it back if need be to get the perfect one. I didn't want to get something different or inferior and regret it later.

No, I don't have a DSL/TSL. It's a JCM800 converted into a Fender Pro Reverb (minus the reverb/tremolo channel) ; the circuitboard was going bad and I didn't really like the sound of the boost channel. So out came the soldering iron... Interference? No, don't think new tubes would help. But all DC wallwarts (for your pedals) should be plugged into the same multi-jack thingy as your amps AC cord. Helps with hum and stuff. Electricity is weird sometimes.
As for the noise when powering on compared to the AVT; they are built completely differently so it's no surprise. What does the noise sound like? Like a background hiss? You could try swap the preamp-tubes around between the sockets; it may be the input stage tube is a bit too noisy. You could try a new 12AX7A-C ( a good current production tube) in the first socket too; it's the one closest to the input jack (usually) .

Sounds like quite an amp. Where did you learn how to mod/build amps if I may ask? I'd love to read about it.

My PSU's are plugged into the same power strip thingie as my amp, but I'll try diffferent combos to see if that helps. And I have 0 experience or idea about the insides of an amp. So I dunno if I should crack it open when I've fark all knowledge lol...

Cheers for the advice though.
