Went into Ralph's today, as they had the best deal on beef rib roasts. Now, when I worked in meat dept. at Albertson's, the rib roasts were all prepared properly; it didn't matter whether we were selling them for $3 per pound or $14 per pound. Bones removed and tied back on. This makes it easier to carve when you are done cooking it. Ralph's just takes the ribs right out of the bag and cuts them into a few sections (which is no work at all). Then they have a sign right above them that says "Small End Rib Roasts." That's what gets me the most. Now, we wouldn't have advertised that at Albertson's, why? Because we had all of our roasts in there. Small end, large end, middle cuts. Didnt matter. So did Ralph's. Why advertise that? Why not just put "Rib roasts for prime rib" - it sounds better, and it isn't anything close to false advertising. Especially since all of the rib roasts in there were large end after I went through them.
At least I got me 16 ribeye steaks for under $90, it was just a bit more work to debone. |

I shop at Ralph's weekly, and generally prefer their meat dept over Vons and others, mainly due to pricing. It really seems like all the meat is very over priced these days, except for pork tenderloins from Trader Joe's, as they're only ~$5/lb. |

Speaking of meat, I was at a deli over by where my mom lives and they were having a sale. Some small town place I can't put a name to at the moment. I ended up with about 25lbs of new york strips for $35. They cut it how I wanted and everything. Really makes me wish I had thawed a pair of those steaks out for this evening... that sounds so good right now.
