Default I've been approved for $5000 Credit Card..what is your maxmium CC?
I am basically building my credit, not using them a lot actually, I've been in US for about 21 months

My 1st CC was $500...had it for about 9 month now..applied for this and I was expecting and would be more than happy with $1000 or $2000 line but for my surprise I got $5000

I am 25 now, so what do you think?..good or bad at this point

So what is the maximum limit on your CCs you guys have?

My Visa Plat has a limit of 7500. Of course, thanks to my truck's engine dying and a few college tuitions, the card is about $100 short of max..... as soon as i have money, that damned thing is getting paid off.

Dude, $5000 credit limit is for the credit card company, not for you. What are you going to do if you max that out? You're going to make that company money and you'll be broke.

I am anti credit cards.

My card company started me out at 1K, moved me up to 2K and then up to 5K each time at intervals of about 18mos. I put everything on my card and pay it all off at the end of the month. Free one-month loan on everything, no fees, double the warranty on items purchased with the card plus I get up to 1.5% (on an escalating scale depending on how much I charge over the year) of my charges back at the end of the year.

If you know how to use your credit card responsibly, your creditor will end up paying you to give you short-term loans every month. It's a pretty sweet deal.

Unfortunately 90% (my personal estimate) of the population in the United States is not like that and are paying for debt they aquired on credit cards.

Earning junior wages I managed to get hold of a credit card with $4500AU limit, I didn't ask for it,that's just what they gave me. 6 months later I get letter stating that pending my approval it would be upgraded to $9500AU ($7500US Approx). Not bad I must say, especially as I quit work and went back to study pretty much straight after I got the card approved.

A massive credit card limit is not something to brag about in my opinion. The credit card companies WANT you to max it out.

I appreciate other people paying interest so companies are willing to give me a credit for free for 50 days. I applaud those people.

As I said...I am building my credit..I will never max a CC unless I have the money

An higher limit on your card does make a difference with interest rates...etc if you decide to buy a house, take a loan...etc...creditors don't only check for your credit score but also you credit limits and the higher you have with very minimal charges on them the better is your credit history

Sounds like someone got the bitter end of credit card crisis some time ago. Don't spit poison into the eyes of those who would handle same situation better then you.

HIgher than I like to admit. I try to keep my balances at zero. CC companies love to entice me to use their cards with a high limit. If you can pay off your balances within 30 days, CC's can actually work to your advantage. Even more so if you get cash back or points.

For those that have the ability to use a credit card responsibly, congratulations to them.

Facts:

$50 billion - Total finance charges Americans paid in 2001.

$8,562 - Credit card debt carried by the average American.

http://www.fool.com/ccc/secrets/secrets.htm

"US consumer debt has reached staggering levels after more than doubling over the past 10 years. According to the most recent figures from the Federal Reserve Board, consumer debt hit $1.98 trillion in October 2003, up from $1.5 trillion three years ago."
http://www.wsws.org/articles/2004/ja...debt-j15.shtml

Just saying, watch out.

The CC's that link to my own money only have a few hundred limit, I preferred to use my Debit Visa card instead, but apparently it is good to build up credit rating by using the CC and just paying it off straight away which I do now, I was just lazy in doing so but I found out that I can pay off my CC using my Debit Visa account online [thumbup] (same company you see)
