Default crikey hows this for a nice suprise before cristmas
well today I was contacted by PSF (personell services Flight) who with great pleasure told me that for the last 6 months ive been paid £300 a month too much.....

and they want the money back, so thats almost 2 grand they are going to reclaim from my pay packet over the next few of months.

looks like christmas is off for me this year and theres absolutely nothing i can do to try to fight my corner over this because its automatically deducted before the money is paid to me.

all they could say was "sorry"

arseholes..

Maybe they shouldn't have told you at all, and just deducted the money. If you didn't notice that you were getting £300 per month more than you should have then you probably wouldn't notice getting £300 less either

I don't mean to patronize but did you not notice the difference in pay?

Either way that's not on. Reflects pretty badly on their HR department. And they should have at least given you a token gesture. I'd make sure you put in an official complaint.

considering I really only make the equivalent of 700UK per month you'd better believe that I would have realized it sooner if I was 300UK off of that either more or less. They never once told you how much they were supposed to be paying you per month? I mean 300UK is no small amount.

Still sucks though and I am sorry that it had to happen around the holidays for you.

I read about this on the news actually - its affected a lot of forces people from what I hear.

Stupid sloppy military admin [no]

Still - I have to ask - why did you not flag it up with them initially, when you noticed you were being paid more than normal? "No such thing as a free lunch", as they say.....

problem is I recieved a pay rise around the same time plus i was given extra money in the form of benifits for being in Iraq for a few months (LSSA) long service seporation allowance

at one point I was earning almost 2,500 a month then it went down to just under 2 grand which i thought was inclusive of the pay rise but obviously not

so instead of earning 1,900 approx a month I was supposed to be getting around 1,600 approx a month.

the extra 300 was given to me a month because they thought I was still detatched to another squadron in england so i was given somthing they call GYH (M) (get you home mileage) which is what you get paid per month to get you to and from my station in scotland to my supposed attachement to a base in england but apparently as i found out I wasnt even entitled to this because I was only on a weeks course 6 months ago when i was down that way.

I know whats happened they didnt re -arrive me on the camp im at now so the system automatically kept paying me this GYH (M) per month.

That sucks. [no] They frequently mess up like that here as well, and the pay-thingy used to be incomplete and so difficult to interpret that it was damn near impossible to discover errrors. That's improved now though.

Their **** up - you pay at a sensible rate at your discretion.

They cant just take it in one or two huge installments.

Make them take it back in monthly £200-300 installments.

when i was a civvy I was paying the wrong tax rate for over a year (wrong tax number)

anyway i was quite well off for a few months after someone descovered the error in payroll and corrected it that was years ago though, back in 1998.

It's funny isn't it.If a company had been under-paying somebody for 6 months then you'd expect the company to pay up what was owed without question.
However when somebody is getting over-paid for the same period of time and suddenly we see posts saying they shouldn't be able to claim it back and it's an unfair system....

Same thing happened to my then fiancee (now wife) a year ago.
She works as a teacher and was told that she had been over-paid for 6 months and that they would be claiming the money back.
They did a 6 month schedule and told her how much she would lose each month.
As it happens there was loads of people this had happened to and they weren't happy at all.
In the end, and I'm still not sure why, they decided to not actually pursue the money back and they all got to keep their little six month bonus.
